The Appeal

To the modern motorist, the concept of a ‘Driving Specification’ is perhaps rather odd. But unlike most manufacturers, Bentley would never assume its clientele intended to sit in the driver’s seat of their Mulsanne. Some do, however, in the great tradition of the ‘gentleman driver’ which has been around since the 1920s. Fittingly, W.O. Bentley developed some of the first motor cars that wealthy owners would drive themselves on Continental grand tours and in competition.
Following in that great tradition, the Mulsanne ‘Mulliner Driving Specification’ was the range-topping version of Bentley’s flagship full-size luxury saloon. It’s the rarest of Mulsannes and the most exclusive, boasting sport-tuned suspension, 21” wheels and a selection of upgraded interior appointments to further enhance the driving experience. With a 184 mph top speed courtesy of a 6.75-litre 505 bhp V8, this Bentley pays homage to Le Mans-winning forebears and is certainly worthy of its ‘Mulsanne’ moniker.
This 2013 example displays a mere 23,122 miles, and commensurately, is in superb condition. Regular service stamps in the original maintenance book confirm that it has been impeccably maintained throughout its life, and six consecutive advisory-free first-time MOT passes provide further affirmation that this is a fine specimen. The vendor, a racing driver and collector, needs to free up some space in his personal collection, which means you could be the next custodian of this brutish, but exquisite sledgehammer of a limousine.

The Condition

  • Beautifully presented throughout, a testament to the car of its keepers
  • Barely any signs of wear, commensurate with its low mileage
  • We understand that all the cabin electrics, infotainment and climate systems are in good working order
As one should expect from a vehicle of such high quality with so few miles on the clock, this Bentley presents beautifully throughout and there are barely any signs of use, let alone wear.
The paintwork remains glossy and the body lines appear as crisp as when the car rolled out of the factory. There’s no evidence of corrosion, accident damage or noteworthy blemishes. Those special 21” alloy wheels all appear in very good order, as do the Dunlop SP Sport Maxx tyres.
The cabin is the Mulsanne’s party piece. It’s positively palatial inside and the quality of the craftsmanship is second to none. While the Mulliner Driving Specification is built for the driver, the passengers are hardly shortchanged, meaning this is as fine a car to be driven in as it is to drive. Brimming with luxurious appointments and a raft of tech, long-distance jaunts are something to look forward to.
The pale leather appears almost devoid of any wear and the same can be said of the controls which all look fantastic. The carpets and boot look exceedingly smart, the woodwork still gleams and the various buttons appear in very good condition. We understand all to be in full working order.

The Mechanics

  • 6.75-litre twin-turbocharged V8
  • Eight-speed ZF automatic gearbox
  • The last service was performed at 22,613 miles - just 509 miles ago
  • No advisories recorded during the last MOT test
To achieve its 184 mph top speed, the Mulsanne ‘Mulliner Driving Specification’ requires quite the engine - a twin twin-turbocharged 6.75-litre V8 to be exact. A key feature of this particular edition is the handling, and as you chuck this two-and-a-half-ton stately home on wheels into a corner at high speed, you’ll be amazed how deft and composed it remind. That makes it a proper old-school Bentley in our eyes - a car that’s as serene at 150 mph as it is at 15.
Benefitting from regular servicing in spite of its minuscule mileage, this example is reportedly in superb driving order. All presents impeccably under the bonnet and there have been no advisories recorded during the past six MOT tests.
