The Appeal

When Triumph first launched the original Bonneville in 1959 it was an instant success, especially in the USA.

Powerful, nimble and with just the right amount of chrome, it sold well. Fast forward 40 years and the new Bonneville surfaced at the Munich Motorcycle show in 2000, powered by a 790cc twin.

Updated in 2008 with fuel injection to meet emissions regulations the Bonneville gained more torque from a slightly larger 865cc engine putting out a useful 67 hp. The short wheelbase, combined with light weight earned the Bonneville a reputation as a nice, easy handling bike.

It was usually ordered with the red or blue two tone paint scheme, but it was also available in Jet Black look.

Although quite a rare option, the all-black scheme really sets off the chrome parts, and enhances the retro road bike look.

Condition

  • Always garaged and never ridden in poor weather
  • Close to showroom condition
  • Some useful upgrades

Looking attractive in its all black finish the Bonneville is in excellent overall condition. It’s no surprise that with so few miles covered it’s not far from being brand new.

The finish is still excellent, with no pitting to the chrome parts and a deep lustre to the black paint finish. Only on close inspection can you find any age related corrosion to exposed metal parts, and some grime in the hard to reach places.

We did however notice a bit of rubber missing on one foot peg. It is obvious that the Bonneville has been well cared for by both its owners.

The seller has added a few nice upgrades all of which are all easily reversible. First is the sissy bar, fitted so his wife could ride pillion more comfortably. It also incorporates a small rear luggage carrier, large enough for a small bag. There is also a helmet lock bracket, thought to be off an Enfield. He has also upgraded the lights with LED bulbs, and added Garmin SatNav with colour screen.

This works well, although having ridden the Bonneville a mere 423 miles he has only needed to use it a couple of times. The saddle is smart, clean and has no rips or damage, in fact barely a crease.

The seller reports the Bonneville rides beautifully. It’s light and thus quite nimble, fast enough and overall is easy and comfortable to ride.

The Mechanics

  • Exceptionally clean and original bike
  • Serviced less than a year ago, with only 230 miles since
  • New Battery fitted last year

The 865cc DOHC parallel twin starts easily and settles into a gentle tick over.

A feature of the T100 is fuel injection, with concealed throttle bodies resembling carburettors at first glance.

This gives a high level of reliability combined with 67hp which is sufficient power. Driving through a 5 speed gearbox it provides nice, relaxed ride. The T100 has always been a popular bike praised for its handling characteristics, which is mostly down to its lightweight.

When the seller purchased the Bonneville in 2019 it was subjected to a full condition report by Destination Triumph, and it remains in the same condition. He had a service carried out in July last year by SBS Motorcycles, and he has ridden only 229 miles since.

It received a new battery in July and the rear tyre was replaced in 2019. Apart from that it has spent much of its time stored in his heated garage.

Summary

Although he has only ridden it occasionally, especially in the past few months, the seller will be sad to see it go, but feels the time is right.

This is a particularly nice example that has been well cared for, regularly serviced and remains it excellent condition.

With its attractive retro styling and easy riding characteristics we are sure that it will provide many more miles of Bonneville entertainment!

About Max Bids

The max bid process allows you to bid without any hassle.

Enter your maximum bid and we will then bid on your behalf to ensure you're the highest bidder - just enough to keep you in the lead and only up until your maximum.

Anti-sniping

Car & Classic prevent auction snipers from bidding in the last seconds to win an auction.

Auctions are extended by 3 minutes if anyone bids within the last 2 minutes to allow other bidders to react and counter-bid.

Auto-bidding increments

  • If your maximum bid is equal to or below the reserve price, your maximum bid will be applied in full if you are the highest bidder.
  • If you are the highest bidder and place a maximum bid above the reserve, we will automatically put in the reserve as your first bid.
    • Once the reserve has been met, Car & Classic will make sure you are the highest bidder using only the bidding increments stated below.
    • We will keep you in the lead up until your maximum bid OR the increment closest to your maximum bid, providing your maximum bid is enough to cover the increment value.

Bid Amount Increment
£0 to £9,999 £100.00
£10,000 to £49,999 £250.00
£50,000 to £99,999 £500.00
£100,000 + £1,000.00

Automatically outbid immediately

When you place a max bid and are outbid immediately that means that another bidder has placed a max bid limit which is higher than yours.

You can bid again and we will use our automatic bid system to try and get you as the highest bidder.

Matching max bids

When there are two max bids of the same value, the one placed first remains the lead bidder.

Pre-authorisation

We may hold a pre-authorisation charge on your card until the end of the auction when the hold will be cancelled. If you win, we'll take a security deposit which counts towards the payment for the vehicle and isn't any extra cost to you.

What are pre-bids?

A pre-bid means you're able to place a bid before the official start of the auction.
You will be notified whether or not you are the highest bidder when the auction starts.

Problem with your bid

Bids are contractually binding. To help protect you, we have some rules in place if we think it's been mistyped. Please check and amend what you have entered.
