The Appeal
Given the success of the MINI in so many markets throughout the world, Audi couldn’t sit back for long. Their answer soon came in the form of the A1, their super small hatchback.
Take Audi’s German engineering prowess and couple it with the small and lightweight form factor and you have a sure-fire recipe for success. The sharp, uber cool styling and build quality that come as standard are taken one step further with the 2.0 litre Black Edition, bringing a host of very useful upgrades and ample power, which with a car this lightweight allows for very comfortable driving around town or indeed for long motorway journeys. If that wasn’t enough to whet the appetite, this one has been mapped by the current owner, increasing its standard 140bhp to 182bhp. Additionally, for the safety conscious, it scored 5 stars in the Euro NCAP crash tests.

The Summary
Audi’s 2.0 litre diesel engines have considerable power anyway, and shift some fairly heavy vehicles around the road as is it. When placed under the bonnet of a car this size, the drive becomes considerably more entertaining. With good fuel economy and five doors, this is a car that could have very wide appeal, especially with it’s useful upgrades and luxurious feel. You may not want to do particularly long journeys with two full sized adults in the back but given how much quicker you’re likely to get there with the engine mapping, it may not be an issue after all.
