If you’re into your Land Rovers, then here’s a fantastic opportunity to get your hands on something truly special. Interest in the classic Defender has been booming since the model went out of production in January 2016, and there are certain examples that deserve to be in the hands of collectors. This is one of them.
A last-of-the-line example originally owner by Land Rover itself (registered to Paragon Fleet Solutions, who managed the marketing and press fleet) it covered only handful of miles before being acquired in 2019 by a 4x4 rental company with just 10 miles on the clock.
It was acquired by the vendor earlier this year having covered just 12,000 miles and he has used it as his daily transport, but now with 17k on the clock he realises it needs to be preserved by a collector rather than used in anger.
Although a base model, by 2016 all Defenders had air con and electric windows, so this is positively decadent compared with basic Defenders of old. It also has an Alpine USB stereo, but there’s no centre cubby – just a storage tray and cup holders.
It’s a two-seater, with a spotless load bay that’s in clean order, complete with a genuine Land Rover accessory mat.
One of the most appealing things about this truck is the colour – Aintree Green metallic, which is one of the more unusual shades seen on a late Defender and which really suits it.
The paint finish is excellent all over with no dents, scuffs or damage, and the white steel wheels are also in fine condition, with very good Goodyear Wrangler mud and snow tyres all-round.
Under the bonnet the Defender is equipped with a 2.2-litre ‘Puma’ diesel, the Ford-derived engine also used in the Transit, Mondeo and Jaguar X-TYPE. It’s a powerplant with a good reliability record and delivers much better performance and refinement than earlier powertrains.
This one has a genuine mileage of just over 17,000, during which it has been serviced four times.
According to the vendor it drives completely without fault and the transmission works as it should in both high and low ratios. There are no reported issues with the steering, brakes or suspension.6aNLyRjeYQnY1c65vunlUJ4stQuNHiKK7GNDD3mE.jpg1.28 MB
SUMMARY
This one is a true collectors’ piece – a very late Defender registered seven months after production ceased and presented in lovely condition inside and out.
A genuinely rare find, and one that deserves to be kept and treasured for future generations. There aren’t many Defenders like this one, which is a truly superb example.
