The Appeal
We have the Texan chicken farmer turned racing driver Carol Shelby to thank for the AC Cobra. He saw the potential in marrying svelte European sports cars with American muscle, using the lightweight AC Ace and fitting Ford V8 engines. The resulting Shelby Cobra proved so successful in sports car racing circles that it’s become perhaps the most replicated car of all time.
There are numerous manufacturers producing bespoke bodywork and chassis for AC Cobra evocations and here we have one of the best on the market. This XCS Cobra kit is yet to be put together, so would make a fantastic winter project. Complete with an unused fibreglass body shell, chassis and various other components, this is an excellent starting point. It’s complete with the purchase documentation from XCS and all looks to be in very good shape.

The Condition
- The fibreglass shell retains its factory gel coat finish, ready to receive paintwork
- The light apertures are yet to be cut out
- Complete with doors, bonnet and boot lid
- The shell appears in very good condition with no signs of damage to the glass fibre structure
- The chassis has been epoxy coated and looks to be in impeccable, unused condition
- Chromed roll hoop supplied, which looks to be a second-hand item with a few signs of use
- Four used Ford branded alloy wheels with tyres fitted
The Mechanics
- XCS’ ‘427’ chassis - designed for Ford 427 cu in (7.0-litre) ‘FE’ V8 - although the choice of powertrain is of course up to the next owner
- Front and rear suspension modules
- Front and rear hubs
- Chromed side pipes with heat shields; these appear in used condition
- Various new fastenings, swivel joints, bushes and brackets in clear plastic bags
