One of the great British Classics, the MGB GT is a sought after and desirable car known to be reliable and fun to drive.
This 1970 registered GT is a great base for someone looking for their next project, its runs, drives and has some recent work carried out but further care and time is required to take this motoring icon back to its original grace and thanks to the huge MG owners club network and part availability, the process of restoring this MGB should be the perfect venture for new and experienced enthusiasts alike.
THE HISTORY AND PAPERWORK
Minor paperwork
Bodywork invoice dated 2017
Invoice for misc work including spark plugs dated September 2021
First registered in January 1970 this MGB GT has been in the lucky ownership of 14 previous individuals with the latest Dorset based owner being the keeper since April 2021.
It is unclear if the mileage displayed of 41,393 is accurate, there’s little evidence to confirm but we imagine that the miles are likely to be closer to 141,393 and the odometer has clocked over.
An invoice and images of some body repair work to the offside rear inner and outer seal is included, alongside an invoice for work carried out by classic car specialist.
THE INTERIOR
Age related wear
In need of attention
Aftermarket radio
New steering column stalk
Inside the MGB there's obvious signs of wear and age related blemishes throughout, the car is 52 years old and as such needs some love.
The carpets seem to be in good order, with no obvious rips, the front and rear seats both show signs of sagging and would require re-foaming and retrimming to retrieve perfection, however they are usable in their current condition.
All the gauges and switches are present on the dash which is looking tired. An aftermarket Sony stereo has also been fitted, other than that everything else seems to be original.
THE EXTERIOR
Age starting to show
Tartan Red
Chrome bumpers need attention
The MGB GT is a splendid looking car from all angles thanks to styling from the Italians Pininfarina.
It's not surprising this is Britain's best selling sports car, with over half a million sold. This one is finished in Flame Red, a fabulous colour on the MGB GT and a great accompaniment to the chrome bumpers and detailing.
The age of the car is starting to show throughout, with areas of bubbling on the paint and also the chrome bumpers could do with polishing if not renewing.
Some work was carried out to the offside rear last September, again images included but the car will need further investments to get it to pristine condition.
THE MECHANICS
Runs and Drives
Four new spark plugs fitted September 2021
MOT & Tax Exempt
During our visit the car started and drove a mile or so down the road slightly to a nearby location for the photos, it started easily and ticked over smoothly.
The car was repositioned and again, no dramatics arose.
Another reason for the MGB GT’s popularity is that the 1.8L petrol engine is reliable, easy to work on and easy to source parts for so even though this one runs and drives without a hitch, if upgrades or tinkering was required in the future, there should be no issue finding what's required.
SUMMARY
A popular, loved classic, ready to be restored and enjoyed.
It's an ideal project for any level of enthusiast who want a venture that won’t break the bank and give you complete driving splendour in all weathers.

NO RESERVE - 1970 MGB GT
About Max Bids
The max bid process allows you to bid without any hassle.
Enter your maximum bid and we will then bid on your behalf to ensure you're the highest bidder - just enough to keep you in the lead and only up until your maximum.
Anti-sniping
Car & Classic prevent auction snipers from bidding in the last seconds to win an auction.
Auctions are extended by 3 minutes if anyone bids within the last 2 minutes to allow other bidders to react and counter-bid.
Auto-bidding increments
If your maximum bid is equal to or below the reserve price, your maximum bid will be applied in full if you are the highest bidder.
If you are the highest bidder and place a maximum bid above the reserve, we will automatically put in the reserve as your first bid.
Once the reserve has been met, Car & Classic will make sure you are the highest bidder using only the bidding increments stated below.
We will keep you in the lead up until your maximum bid OR the increment closest to your maximum bid, providing your maximum bid is enough to cover the increment value.

Automatically outbid immediately
When you place a max bid and are outbid immediately that means that another bidder has placed a max bid limit which is higher than yours.
You can bid again and we will use our automatic bid system to try and get you as the highest bidder.
Matching max bids
When there are two max bids of the same value, the one placed first remains the lead bidder.
Pre-authorisation
We may hold a pre-authorisation charge on your card until the end of the auction when the hold will be cancelled. If you win, we'll take a security deposit which counts towards the payment for the vehicle and isn't any extra cost to you.
What are pre-bids?
A pre-bid means you're able to place a bid before the official start of the auction.
You will be notified whether or not you are the highest bidder when the auction starts.
Problem with your bid
Bids are contractually binding. To help protect you, we have some rules in place if we think it's been mistyped. Please check and amend what you have entered.
