The Background
Introduced in 1980 alongside the GTS variant the 208 GTB was Ferrari's smallest displacement version of the 308 GTB with a 2.0-litre V8 pushing out 155bhp.
Produced for the Italian market where new cars with engines above 2 litres were subject to much higher taxes the 208 GTB may not have been the quickest but it was still a looker thanks to those classic 308 lines penned by Leonardo Fioravanti of Pininfarina.
The History
This rare, two-owner car was initially purchased in Italy.
A low mileage and solid example it is now registered and residing in Belgium where it has been expertly maintained, cherished and driven for the past three years. It now awaits its lucky new owner.
The Paperwork
The car comes with a few receipts for past work, including a bill in 2016 for over 5000 Euros.
Other documents include its Belgian registration, a taxation report from 2019, technical control paperwork and proof of previous insurance.
The Interior
The black leather seats have been partially reupholstered and are in good condition overall with some light patina and the matching interior panels present well.
The driver's seat has been lowered by removing the original rails (which are included in the sale) and the black dashboard and carpets, along with the headlining, are all in good shape.
All of the instruments, electrics and switchgear are fully functional with the exception of the passenger window which is currently inoperable. The car comes equipped with a tool kit too.
The Exterior
The original body is in lovely condition overall with the car retaining its original paint. There are some minor flaws to the finish but it retains a nice, glossy shine. There are some signs of use around the car with a few light blemishes and a small dent to the boot lid but the shut lines are all straight.
The glass and rubbers are original and in good condition and the underside of the car is in great shape with no trace of repairs or rust. There are normal signs of use and age but no serious damage.
The staggered 5-spoke aluminium wheels have been previously refurbished and are in good condition with new Pirelli tyres. The car is equipped with a full size spare wheel identical to the front wheels with an unused tyre, as well as the original tool kit.
The Mechanics
Visually the engine looks good and all of the original ancillary equipment is present. It starts and runs smoothly, thanks in part to recently rebuilt carburettors and it doesn't make any untoward noises.
There are no signs of serious fluid leakage, just some age-related "sweating". The suspension and brakes are original spec with new shock absorbers, discs and pads as well as rebuilt calipers.
Everything is visually sound with only normal signs of wear and tear. The all-important timing belt has recently been replaced.
The Appeal
The 208 may have the smallest V8 engine that Ferrari ever produced but this horse can certainly still prance with a top speed of 150 mph and it remains an engaging drive. It's a pretty car too with that classic wedge shape and those scalloped air intakes adorning the doors.
Production numbers were tiny so there is a rarity factor to be enjoyed here and along with a low mileage of just 30,000 kms, this beautiful and exclusive 208 GTB has a lot going for it.
