The Background
Launched in 1971, the R107 continued in production right up until 1989 being continually improved along the way. The final face-lift examples being the most refined and of course now the most sought after.
The face-lift 300SL, like this car here, is equipped with the Bosch KE Jetronic straight-six 3.0-litre engine and is known for its reliability and fine balance between power and fuel economy.

This car has been dry-stored the whole of its life and has never been intentionally driven in the rain, the result is one of the most beautiful, original time-warp examples out there. Having covered under 21,558 miles from new and been looked after so well, the car wants for nothing and remains as close to a new car you can get, other than a few very minor age-related marks.
For good measure, prior to sale, the car has been checked over by the renowned Mercedes-Benz specialists Colin Ferns in SW London, where it passed the inspection with flying colours. It also underwent its 24,000-mile service early where it received a full lubrication service and safety check along with the usual serviceable items.
This car comes with its original three keys, original service book, owner’s manuals, invoices and numerous MOT certificates dating as far back as its first required MOT in 1990. (Every car is exempt for the first three years of its life)

The interior of the car is completely original and is as one would expect it to have looked when it rolled off the production line. The seats have hardly any evidence of use, the dashboard and walnut trim are uncracked and unbleached, and the carpets and door cards are equally impressive.
There is an original tool-roll, complete with tools and an original first-aid kit whose contents appear never to have been disturbed. Under the carpet lining and a plastic cover is the spare wheel, which has clearly never been used as the original tyre from 1986 remains attached to the wheel and the rubber is still surprisingly soft!

As you would expect from a low mileage car that has been cherished so well for the whole of its life, the exterior of this car is in astonishingly good condition. The underside is completely solid, and the paintwork is completely original with only a handful of very minor and age-related marks that only a keen eye could spot at first glance.
The same can be said for the alloy wheels which are fitted with Radial tyres with plenty of tread left!

As one would expect from a car with such a history, this car starts on the button and drives beautifully and with only 21,558 miles having been driven from new, there are many more miles to be enjoyed!
The 4-speed automatic gearbox shifts through the gears sportily and as it should, making this a very fun car to drive.

The original radio and automatic aerial work as they should, and the electric windows raise and lower on the button.
Open the bonnet and it is again quite clear that the car has been meticulously maintained and its originality is unrivalled.
Everyone seems to love the R107 and for good reason, not only are they reliable and fun cars to drive, but they are also timeless in design and appreciating assets all at the same time! In its original and unmolested state, the driving experience on this particular example is truly remarkable and reflects exactly what one would expect from the car had it just rolled off the production line.
To find one in such remarkable condition and with so very few warranted miles on the clock is very rare and special indeed and anyone who is looking for the best need look no further!
