The Appeal

The Range Rover P38 remains an affordable modern classic, but for how long? Its combination of the trusty V8, style and space make it an attractive all-purpose vehicle and, with a variety of specialists out there who can help to keep them in service, they have broad appeal.
This example was off the road between 2017 and 2022 and has recently been recommissioned with a new battery and air suspension and an inspection from a P38 specialist. Thus refreshed, it’s ready to go and, with a number of desirable extras and low mileage, it’s very usable and could easily be used daily.

The Interior

  • Blackberry grey leather
  • Upgraded audio
  • New headlining
Spacious and luxurious, the cabin is notable for the unusual blackberry grey leather which makes for a pleasant change. The previous elderly owner apparently struggled a little when getting in and out which has worn the driver’s seat and it has seen a rip repaired but it remains very usable and the rest of the seats are very well preserved.
The headlining has just been replaced which means that it’s very tidy up above while underneath your feet there are rubber mats to help protect the carpets and a Range Rover branded boot tidy in the back.
The seller reports that everything works as it should and, although there’s a few marks here and there, overall the interior is very good for its age and mileage.

The Exterior

  • Epsom green metallic paint
  • Front fog lights
  • Good wheels and tyres
Epsom Green is a classic Range Rover colour and suits the car well. It looks suitably smart with side steps that appear to be unusually solid, and only a few marks to the paint - some light crazing to the bonnet, and a couple of marks, one on the near side rear quarter panel and one near the driver’s door handle.
The wheels are all in good condition and wear tyres with a good level of tread all round while underneath, although a little dusty, reportedly shows nothing more than surface corrosion. In all, it’s very presentable.

The Mechanics

  • 4.0 litre V8
  • Automatic gearbox
  • New battery
  • Renewed Air suspension
  • Recent inspection by P38 specialist
Mechanically, the seller reports that this Range Rover is in very good order after a recent full service with a sweet-sounding V8 and no leaks or smoke. The air suspension has just been replaced as it had previously been converted to springs and it’s all now said to work just as it should. The steering knuckle joints, expensive items to replace, also said to all be in good order. Overall, the seller describes it as driving exceptionally well.

Summary

A low mileage example of the modern classic P38 that has been recently refreshed and is ready for its next owner.

About Max Bids

The max bid process allows you to bid without any hassle.

Enter your maximum bid and we will then bid on your behalf to ensure you're the highest bidder - just enough to keep you in the lead and only up until your maximum.

Anti-sniping

Car & Classic prevent auction snipers from bidding in the last seconds to win an auction.

Auctions are extended by 3 minutes if anyone bids within the last 2 minutes to allow other bidders to react and counter-bid.

Auto-bidding increments

  • If your maximum bid is equal to or below the reserve price, your maximum bid will be applied in full if you are the highest bidder.
  • If you are the highest bidder and place a maximum bid above the reserve, we will automatically put in the reserve as your first bid.
    • Once the reserve has been met, Car & Classic will make sure you are the highest bidder using only the bidding increments stated below.
    • We will keep you in the lead up until your maximum bid OR the increment closest to your maximum bid, providing your maximum bid is enough to cover the increment value.

Bid Amount Increment
£0 to £9,999 £100.00
£10,000 to £49,999 £250.00
£50,000 to £99,999 £500.00
£100,000 + £1,000.00

Automatically outbid immediately

When you place a max bid and are outbid immediately that means that another bidder has placed a max bid limit which is higher than yours.

You can bid again and we will use our automatic bid system to try and get you as the highest bidder.

Matching max bids

When there are two max bids of the same value, the one placed first remains the lead bidder.

Pre-authorisation

We may hold a pre-authorisation charge on your card until the end of the auction when the hold will be cancelled. If you win, we'll take a security deposit which counts towards the payment for the vehicle and isn't any extra cost to you.

What are pre-bids?

A pre-bid means you're able to place a bid before the official start of the auction.
You will be notified whether or not you are the highest bidder when the auction starts.

Problem with your bid

Bids are contractually binding. To help protect you, we have some rules in place if we think it's been mistyped. Please check and amend what you have entered.
