THE APPEAL
When a car manufacturer launches a new model, the first reviews are considered critical to its success – glitzy press launches and expensive photo shoots are an integral part of the process of bringing a new car to market and wooing the critics.
The Jaguar XJR wooed the most important of them all – at least in the UK – with none other than BBC Top Gear front man, Jeremy Clarkson, describing it as “quite simply, the best car ever made”.
Those who love their Jags will find it hard to disagree with him, as the 370bhp supercharged super saloon is a marvellous beast. One of the finest-handling, smoothest-riding and coolest-to-look-at saloons ever created.
This 2001 example is an absolute gem – a three-owner car with just under 60,000 miles on the clock, it’s a wonderful, genuine car with a comprehensive history file.

SUMMARY
One of the downsides of the Jaguar XJR is that it’s such a wonderful car to drive that many of them get driven into the ground, meaning that low-mileage cars with low ownership are extremely rare indeed.
This one is just such a car – three owners, a comprehensive history, fantastic condition bodily and clearly well looked-after, it’s a smashing example of one of the truly great Jaguar saloon cars. But don’t take out word for it – not when Jeremy Clarkson called it the best car in the world.
