The Volkswagen GTI range, renowned the world over for a combination performance and  quality defiantly met one of its most refined and comfortable states with the release of the  Mk4 variant with a completely new chassis and interior from the Mk3. 

This particular example is powered by an improved variant of the 2.0 litre engine used in the  Mk3 GTI, renowned for its reliability and relative frugality on a run. This combined with one  of the most luxurious interiors on offer at the time in the range and exterior styling that has  stood the test of time makes for an incredibly practical, comfortable and sporty car that at  such a low original mileage will be a sure fire investment or reliable daily drive.

More often than not, GTI cars go through many owners, this one not so much, having just  two registered keepers, the seller has not wanted to increase the number of registered  keepers and preserve its history and so the log book will have to be easily applied for at the  buyers local post office. 

Complete with a new MOT certificate, fresh service & inspection and the original service  book folder, everything is in place ready to be enjoyed by the new owner.

First thing that strikes you about this GTI as opposed to others is those seats! Huge  supportive bolsters make this exceptionally comfortable and give you that true GTI feeling  and not just that but these are made even better by being heated for those frosty British  mornings. The rear seats are in remarkable condition with little evidence of use, the fronts  having been kept very well with very light cracking on the bolsters, far less that what is  normally seen on cars like this, showing great care and attention from its owners. 

Ice cold air conditioning keeps things fresh and dry in the summer and a premium sound  system was optioned from factory which not doubt sounds fantastic compared to the  already fabulous standard system these cars normally come with.

This example also comes with the option of a black dashboard which is in great shape, the  usual matte coatings on the ash tray and interior door handles are starting to peel as is  common on this era of Volkswagen along with some light wear to the gear stick gaiter,  nothing unusual for the age of the car and far less than what we would usually expect to  see. 

The headlining is unmarked and properly fitted, no sagging or rips anywhere along with the  absolutely immaculate boot lining and floor carpets throughout, a complete joy! 

Overall an exceptionally well kept interior, not without some very minor age related  blemishes but possibly one of the nicest we’ve seen for a while. 

Finished is a very glossy Pulsar metallic silver, this car does not look its age, from front to  back is almost blemish free with one small touch in on the roof probably being the worst.  The car sustained a minor, low impact collision to the passenger front wing, resulting in a  replacement being fitted and painted, this has been done exceptionally well and as a result can not be distinguished from the original paint. The usual suspect areas of corrosion on  the Mk4 golfs are not an issue on this one, all the arches being blemish free from what we  could tell along with the sills sill vibrant silver. 

The classic GTI spec, 5 spoke wheels are nearly perfect and likely still wearing the original  paint with very few marks and the centre caps perfectly shiny and in one piece. The  headlights are perfectly clear, black plastic trims look almost totally unfaded and all the  glass appears to be original, all making for a very striking example of a legendary car.

Beautifully maintained and cared for, this golf has not seen years of abuse like so many like  it have and still retains all the original mechanical features it came from the factory with. We  are assured it drives as tight as a drum whilst still smooth and quiet on those ample tyres.  The under-bonnet is superbly clean, just the usual light misting of road dust collected in the  corners. 

All the plastic covers, more often than not missing are all there, all of them well  fitted and secure, no suspicious leaks or damage to be seen and as new looking coolant  tank and screen wash bottle. Even the underside of the bonnet is very shiny! Underneath the car is a similar story, a solid looking underside and chassis rails with no  jacking creases, relatively unused looking brakes and a solid exhaust. Usual surface  corrosion on the lighter painted areas on the suspension, nothing out of the ordinary and all  solid looking. 

Knocking on the door of ‘modern classic’ territory, Golf GTI’s don’t come much cleaner and  more original than this one. Straight as an arrow, super high gloss on the outside and a  luxury interior that you won’t often see fitted to similar cars, what’s not to like? With all the  comforts to be used all year round and a punchy 2.0 litre engine this car will tick the boxes  of most peoples wants and needs.
