The Porsche Cayenne is tipped by many to be the next big thing – a game-changing Porsche that redefined the brand and made it VW Group’s most profitable business unit as the market for premium SUVs exploded in the 2000s. It’s hard to believe it’s now 20 years since it was launched.
The Cayenne was the first Porsche SUV, the first with a V8 engine since the 928 and the first with off-road capability since the company built tractors in the 1950s. It was initially offered only with those V8 engines, normally aspirated and turbocharged, to ensure that it lived up to Porsche’s performance promise.
Good early examples are becoming few and far between, but this three-owner car is a lovely example in fine order – a great way into owning the seminal Porsche SUV and a guaranteed future classic.
THE HISTORY AND PAPERWORK
Only 63k from new
Service history to 62,000 miles
UK V5
Three owners from new
Book pack and manuals
The Cayenne was first registered in 2004 and has had just three owners, the last since 2012.
It has a wallet full of Porsche booklets and manuals and a service book stamped to 62,000 miles, initially by Porsche main dealers in Kent and then Cheshire, followed by independent repairers since 2016.
It has an MOT valid until February 2023 and a UK V5C.
THE INTERIOR
Pale grey leather
Climate control
Sat nav
Porsche Communications Centre
Exceptionally clean and smart
This is a very smart and well-presented example of the Cayenne, with spotless pale grey leather and carpets and a charcoal over grey dash all in superb order. The seats are electronically adjustable and show barely any wear.
The Porsche Communications Centre integrated nav and audio system works as it ought to, and it’s all exceptionally clean and fresh.
THE EXTERIOR
Basalt Black Metallic
Good overall order
No notable marks or damage
Overall, the Cayenne presents very well in smart Basalt Black metallic. It’s a great colour for the model and is complemented by darkened rear privacy glass.
It’s free of any notable damage, but looks closely and there are a few marks – a scuff on one rear bumper corner, a few paint chips that have been touched in and a small piece of missing trim from a door handle. All fairly trivial stuff.
A fussy owner may choose to refurbish the alloy wheels as well. They’re in presentable condition at a distance, but the finish has lifted in places and there are light kerbing marks all round. Having said this the car benefits for four brand new 19 inch Pirelli P zero's fitted a weeks ago worth a small fortune.
THE MECHANICS
4.5-litre V8
Tiptronic transmission with steering wheel controls
Electronic all-wheel-drive
No known faults
The V8 engine fires up on the button and sounds fantastic. It holds a steady idle and temperature.
It’s the normally aspirated version of the 4.5-litre V8 that debuted in the model, developing 340bhp. The engine is coupled to Porsche’s Tiptronic semi-auto transmission, which allows manual control via steering wheel buttons.
The vendor reports that it drives faultlessly, and that there are no known faults or defects.
SUMMARY
This is a great example of the first-generation Cayenne, in a good spec and in one of the best colours. Its last owner had it for a decade and clearly looked after it, while the verified low mileage adds further appeal. It also has an immaculate and fresh interior, and appears to be in great mechanical order.

About Max Bids
The max bid process allows you to bid without any hassle.
Enter your maximum bid and we will then bid on your behalf to ensure you're the highest bidder - just enough to keep you in the lead and only up until your maximum.
Anti-sniping
Car & Classic prevent auction snipers from bidding in the last seconds to win an auction.
Auctions are extended by 3 minutes if anyone bids within the last 2 minutes to allow other bidders to react and counter-bid.
Auto-bidding increments
If your maximum bid is equal to or below the reserve price, your maximum bid will be applied in full if you are the highest bidder.
If you are the highest bidder and place a maximum bid above the reserve, we will automatically put in the reserve as your first bid.
Once the reserve has been met, Car & Classic will make sure you are the highest bidder using only the bidding increments stated below.
We will keep you in the lead up until your maximum bid OR the increment closest to your maximum bid, providing your maximum bid is enough to cover the increment value.

Automatically outbid immediately
When you place a max bid and are outbid immediately that means that another bidder has placed a max bid limit which is higher than yours.
You can bid again and we will use our automatic bid system to try and get you as the highest bidder.
Matching max bids
When there are two max bids of the same value, the one placed first remains the lead bidder.
Pre-authorisation
We may hold a pre-authorisation charge on your card until the end of the auction when the hold will be cancelled. If you win, we'll take a security deposit which counts towards the payment for the vehicle and isn't any extra cost to you.
What are pre-bids?
A pre-bid means you're able to place a bid before the official start of the auction.
You will be notified whether or not you are the highest bidder when the auction starts.

Bids are contractually binding. To help protect you, we have some rules in place if we think it's been mistyped. Please check and amend what you have entered.
