Rare Hard top version (only a handful left in the UK).

It was subject to a restoration a number of years ago. Mechanically these cars are bomb proof and this vehicle is no exception to that, it’s the body work has always proved to the Achilles heel. The body on this example has clearly been worked on previously and there are areas of surface rust appearing on some of the panel joints but it is 40 years old and reasonable allowance should be made for this, overall it is a very tidy solid vehicle. Road Tax and MOT exemption will come in April 2019 and May 2019 respectively so it’s next MOT in Aug (due ** August) will be its last.
It has manual free-wheeling front axle hubs, high / low transfer box which means 2 or 4 wheel drive in high ratio and 4 wheel drive in low ratio, a Tow bar is fitted but Towing electrics have not been tested by me. The displayed mileage is approx. 47, 500 miles (but this cannot be authenticated).
The engine is standard, being the 12R Toyota 1. 6 litre 4 cylinder unit (which was also fitted to a variety of vehicles between 1969 and 1988 such as the Corona, HiAce and HiLux). This one starts first time, ticks over smoothly and quietly, pulls really well and does not smoke at all (Electronic Ignition in the shape of a Pertronix in-distributor type is also fitted with a replacement coil) restarting when hot does require a little more turning over but it has never failed to start for me.
The car appears to have always been green all its life and the interior is testament to this however it was obviously resprayed at the time of restoration with a matt finish giving it a military look.
The driver’s seat has been swapped for a MX5 seat giving more support and comfort, the passenger is original but not in the best condition, the original driver’s seat will come with the vehicle as will the passenger MX5 replacement seat to fit at your leisure. The original jack and tools are also present as is a Haynes manual for the period HiAce / HiLux which has an identical engine and the Original hand book.
This is a rare gem of a little 4x4 that doesn’t often come up for sale in this condition very often at all.
Guaranteed lots of Smiles per mile, great fun to drive and a real stand out from the crowd vehicle. A very reluctant sale on my part but other projects are beckoning. The vehicle is currently located in Telford, Shropshire and viewing is highly recommended.
