Wolseley 4/ 44 – Lovely Example
The Wolseley 4/ 44 was produced by the newly formed BMC group between 1953 and 1956. Much of the design was shared with the MG Magnette and in keeping with the upmarket position of Wolseley the car came with leather seats, polished walnut dashboard/ door caps & traditional Wolseley radiator grill with illuminated badge
Our 4/ 44 was exported to Holland by a Dutch collector in 1996 and re-patriated in May of this year by a local enthusiast in West Sussex. The car has since gone through an MOT and the DVLA have allocated the original Middlesex registration number.
The chassis & bodywork present extremely well with no corrosion and the black paint has a deep lustre with just the old mark commensurate with age. The interior is lovely with re-upholstered seats in the original style and very nice headlining, carpets, woodwork. Mechanically the car has just had a brake overhaul (new shoes all round and wheel cylinders as required) and a new water pump – the old one had a slight weep when the car arrived with us. The XPAG engine runs perfectly, the column change/ gearbox is a joy to use and the original semaphore indicators work with flashers also fitted for safety.
The 4/ 44 is a stunning 1950’s saloon that looks good and is very capable on today’s roads. Our car recently completed a 700mile round trip to Yorkshire with absolutely no drama and she will give years of pleasure to the lucky new owner.
