SERVICES OFFERED
I can offer reboring and honing services for many classic and vintage vehicles; from cars and small commercial vehicles, to motorcycles, scooters and small industrial engines.
EQUIPMENT
I currently have three portable boring bars, an SPS mini boring bar for small cylinders, a Van Norman 944 for larger cylinders, and a Buma boring bar also for larger cylinders. To go with this I have three matching sets of portable honing equipment.
SPS MINI BAR SIZE RANGE
The SPS mini boring bar has a boring range from 1. 378" (35mm), up to 3. 425" (87mm). This machine is best suited to reboring small diameter bores. In particular, it's small enough to rebore the small Vespa 90, and Honda 90 models, which have a standard bore size of 47mm. It can also rebore the very small Honda 50 step thru and sport models, which have a bore size of 40mm, and can even go right down to the MTX50 and Z50 models, which have a bore size of 39mm.
VAN NORMAN 944 BORING BAR SIZE RANGE
The Van Norman 944 boring bar is larger and heavier than the SPS and has a boring range from 2. 19" (55. 57mm), up to 4. 418" (112. 22mm), so will rebore most vintage car and small commercial/ industrial engines as well as most motorbikes and scooters (Triumph, BSA, Norton, Ariel, AJS, Royal Enfield, Velocette, BMW, Honda, Kawasaki, Suzuki, Yamaha, Lambretta, Vespa, etc) provided they don't have Nikasil liners.
BUMA BORING BAR SIZE RANGE
The Buma portable boring bar is larger and heavier than the Van Norman, but has a very similar boring range that goes from 2. 2" (55. 88mm), up to 4. 375" (111. 125mm). Due to its weight it is used mainly in the workshop for reboring large single cylinders in its matching jig (the blue one as seen in the pictures).
