This beautiful example of the luxury motorcaravan from yesteryear is for sale. The 1971 Commer Tourstar was the height of sophistication in its heyday and never fails to turn heads today.
European Caravans Limited came about after the demise of Central Garage (Bradford), who were taken over by the Looker Group, of Manchester. Central Garages had produced the stylish Paralanian coach-built, designed by Eric Smith. Eric set up European Caravans with anyother ex-director and the Tourstar was born.
Rumoured to be one of only a few left remaining, buying this Commer will be buying a little piece of history.
The Commer Tourstar has a 1725cc Roots petrol engine (converted to unleaded). Coach-built body made from selected hardwoods, exterior panels made of 18 gauge aluminium with a reinforced fibreglass roof.
Interior is made from oak veneered timber, fitted wardrobe with full length mirror. Generous storage space with draws, cupboards and lockers for long periods of touring. The doors of the shower compartment and wardrobe when opened can be firmly bolted together to form a neat private dressing room with portaloo. The seats of the dinette convert very simply to form a 6'x4' double bed.
Standard equipment includes gas cooker with oven, refrigerator and stainless steel sink. Added a modern w. c in the closet.
Since we have owned the Tourstar, it has been the length and breath of England, from Northumberland to Goodwood and Norfolk to Anglesea without any problems, (we had a flat tyre in Beverley once) but apart from that no problems.
Comes with a new 12 month MOT and a modern side and back awning for extra space.
It’s with a very heavy heart that this motorcaravan is looking for it’s next chapter of adventures.
