Description
1959 singer gazelle
registered on the 20thof july 1959 to a mr. E edwards in aberystwyth, this rare early series car has only covered 78, 000 miles from new and can only be described as virtually time warped.
finished in sage green with a smoke grey side flash, wheels and headlight hoods and complimented by matching green interior. This mid sized rootes flag ship model shouts pure 1950’s. And today she looks as though she has been transported from the 1970’s considering the condition.

bodywork.
in my opinion, she looks like a 10-year-old car, not a 60 year old one. The paint is i guess about 70 to 80% factory and apart from some localized bits and bobs here and there, the exterior is extremely solid and unmolested. The sills have for some reason been under sealed, however looking underneath the car. They appear to be the original ones. I reckon that this could be removed with thinners and a few hours of patience. There is also some under seal at the base of each rear wing, again i don’t think it’s hiding anything nasty and it speaks pure 1970’s to me. The doors shut with that lovely old click and inside the boot and bonnet is close to immaculate to say the least. The underside is tremendous and has been coated with what looks like, engine oil.
interior
i can only describe thus as fantastic for a 60-year-old car. The carpets, rubber mats, headliner and door cards are superb, whilst the wood veneer is in patina condition. I’ve never seen one of these as original as this in side
mechanicals
the gazelle starts at the flick of the ignition and the engine runs very sweetly with no knocks or bangs. On the road she goes through the gears very smoothly and the ride is comfortable and relatively easy. The gearbox is very nice and the brakes will just require some further adjustment, as they could be slightly better. The exhaust looks recent, however who ever fitted has adjusted the rear tailpipe and opened up a seam, which they tried to weld. This in my opinion needs doing properly. Tyres are not very old
chrome & trim
the chrome is showing its age in places but this can only be expected and both front and rear screen rubbers have gone rock hard with age but again, typical of the age.
summary
this gazelle looks 10 years, that’s the correct way to describe her. She has not been restored, bodged or messed with and personally i feel the value is in her originality. She is pretty much ready to use, subject to a good service and check over. Anything else can be done as and when you have some time
finally, i have the buff logbook and old style v5 but i’m waiting on the new v5. i will of course provide a full receipt on sale if this doesn’t arrive by the time the car sells. And yes, the number is the original and it stays with the car.
