Beschreibung
Correctly registered as a Dutton Phaeton with V5 present. MOT until August 2020 with no Advisories.
Engine: Ford Kent crossflow. The engine has the all important 711M block which has been bored out to 1700cc. It has a balanced crank, pistons and con rods. The head has been skimmed, ported and fitted with ultra thin headed valves and competition springs. The camshaft is a Kent cam also fitted with kent cam followers and the oil pump uprated to a high pressure one. Fuel is delivered by a Weber progressive twin choke carb topped with a custom Pipercross air filter. The carb was retuned summer 2018. Converted to run on unleaded safely. The engine has done just over 20, 000 miles since complete rebuild. Engine oil and filter change complete last week.
The exhaust: The car has a purpose built, bespoke, full stainless steel system comprising of a 4 to 1 manifold with long primary pipes (better performance) going to a lightly baffled silencer which has a heat shield fitted. Cruising is nice and quiet but put your foot down and she roars beautifully.
The ignition: Now running Aldon electronic ignition and was setup at the same time as carb tuning in summer 2018.
The cooling: The cooling system has a set of twin thermostatically controlled fans. New temperature sender and aluminium alloy expansion tank fitted a few months ago.
The gearbox: The much rarer and stronger 'Ford type 3' 4 speed gearbox. A previous owner took the gearbox out of the car (I have photographs of the strip and rebuild) and paid £300 to have it completely rebuilt. He also fitted a brand new clutch and release bearing. This feeds a 3. 54:1 ratio differential (sought after) which is excellent for cruising in 4th gear, via a lightened prop shaft.
The suspension: The front suspension is Triumph Spitfire which gives a brilliant turning circle. The rear suspension is mk2 Escort leaf spring. The front brakes are Escort discs and the rear are Escort drums.
The wheels: The wheels are lightweight steel rims with good quality Hankook tyres.
The Interior: The car comes with a pair of very nice Cobra bucket seats with a booster cushion (if needed) and fully adjustable Kruss safety harnesses. Removable steering wheel. The car comes with a bespoke purpose made tonneau cover which sits nicely in the boot. The dash is from a Ford Escort which are now becoming very rare, the clocks and surround are in good condition but the top of the dash does have some wear from the tonneau. There are side screen doors which attach very easily. I also have a hood for it but no frame so never fitted.
The body: The body is fibreglass topped with British Racing Green gel coat. The body cleans up nicely as you can see in the pictures but it does show some age related marks and scratches. There are a couple of dings out of the fibreglass but nothing major and as with bodies of this type does have some starring cracks/ crazing. The car has sheet aluminium side panels.
