Description

Supplied new in 1965 by Jacksons Garage, the Mercedes Benz dealership for Jersey, the 300SE has unusually for a car of this age been in one family ownership since new, and has a fully documented service history carried out by the Mercedes main dealer from new to 80121 miles in 1978. In 2001 at 91300 miles, the Mercedes underwent a total body & mechanical restoration by Prestige Restorations of Southend on Sea in the sum of £39072. 25. To carry out the 770 hour restoration today would cost in excess of £75, 000 including parts.

The restoration was meticulously detailed in the restoration schedule with supporting photographs contained in the Mercedes wallet containing the service records. The last service being carried out in 2018 at 95794 miles. The mileage today is recorded as 95825 miles.

In overall very good condition being regularly maintained and having received a full restoration in 2001. The car has mellowed since restored and presents well with a high degree of originality, as the interior where necessary was repaired with leather to original specification, complimented by the re-polishing of the wooden fascia and trim panels. In addition, the body was extensively restored with work carried out to wings, doors boot, cross members, rear wheel arches. Mechanical works were also carried out, which some 4500 miles later provides a reliable and very usable period Mercedes saloon from the 1960’s.

The body after having any rust removed was panelled as necessary, and then refinished in grey white to match the colour code, the boot area underwent extensive works as shown in the accompanying photographs. The accounts shown repairs and some retrimming in the original leather, together with the refurbishment of wooden trim panels, which today are still in very good condition. One of the major areas was the attention to detail with the rechroming of the brightwork, and the re-anodisation of alloy trim panels.

Mechanically the short block motor had been replaced by the Mercedes dealership at 68330 miles in the mid to late 1970’s, this is confirmed by the note in the service book by Jacksons Garage. In 2001 the following mechanical work was undertaken using Mercedes parts.
