A rare opportunity to become the new custodian of a unique vehicle. Commer vans are the British –but much rarer - equivalent of VWs. The Commer Maidstone was first produced in 1959, and this 1961 vehicle is not only the oldest one still in existence (as far as the very friendly Commer fraternity are aware), but it is virtually all original! It has had new curtains and upholstery, front seatbelts, a weber carb and servo assist, but still has the original cupboards, double hob, grill, sink and water pump, engine, and electric and gas lighting. Full service history, as far as I can tell, from new (a whole A4 lever arch file of it!) Seats 7 – 3 in front, 2 on each of 2 bench seats in the back, the front one of which can be forward or rear facing. Sleeps 4 or 5, the seating rearranging into a double bed, a single hammock in the pop-up roof, and a further hammock in the front cab which will sleep one adult (who doesn’t mind not stretching out straight) or two small children. It had a repaint in 2012, pictures of which are available, and which show that it is very solid under the paintwork. But because it has lived outside for the last 4 years it does now have some paintwork/ rust issues which need dealing with. That work notwithstanding, it is ready to drive away and have fun in!
