Description
Drive differently, has to be the motto here.
In recent years the minimalist speedster style has spotted across the world in numerous endurance rallying events, making a name for its self-thanks to Norfolk businessman Bill Cleyndert. Bill has a large and eclectic car collection from all era’s. However, when it comes to Endurance rallying he’s shunned the previous rallying Bentley for a 1924 Model A Ford “speedster” with much acclaim and success.
The Oakland we offer is powered by its original 3 litre 4 cylinder engine, there is a huge amount of torque on tap, put on the road via a 3-speed gearbox through a conventional rear axle setup (not chain drive), with the old VSCC slogan “brakes are for girlies” firmly imprinted in my mind. I’m sure this is soon forgotten as you disappear down the road picking flies out from between your teeth. (The rear wheel brakes are actually very effective and will lock when needed even on a dry surface..) Bodywork is kept to a minimum so it all power and very little weight, providing cursing speed of 50-60 mph. From every angle the car looks purposeful and very attractive, the vee Oakland radiator hiding behind the period fork-mounted headlights the aesthetics and proportions are just right.
The luxuriously upholstered bucket seats are welcoming and very comfortable holding both occupants firmly in place and ready for adventure. Recently the engine has been stripped and inspected with new white metal applied to the big ends. Kingpins and bushes have just been renewed so the car is ready for immediate use. Recent VSCC buff form issued so ready for the start of the impending VSCC season.
So if like Bill, you’re into making the most of life, love big adventures and life on the edge how about this 1915 Oakland 37 Speedster (so Edwardian, none of the modern Vintage stuff)! All you need to do now is wait for your cheque to clear and deicide what historic motoring discipline is going to be your new thing.
