EXTERIOR
Garaged since new, this beautiful example of the Mercedes E320 convertible is completely rust-free, even in problem areas such as the front wings – in fact, it is in such wonderful condition that it is hard to believe that 26 years have passed since it rolled off the production line. Soon after this car was made, the E-Class was dramatically facelifted, but here the classic, solid rectangular headlights are still present and are combined with subtle touches including a large-sweep single windscreen wiper and ‘Sportline’ badges on the front wings.
INTERIOR
The interior is immaculate, and features the unique ‘Sportline’ trim with a smaller diameter black leather steering wheel and ‘Sportline’ badge on the gear knob. Both the grey leather seats and grey carpets in the footwells and boot are unmarked, while the wood inserts in the steering wheel, dash and door trim retains its original sheen. Among the equipment are two front airbags, highly unusual for a car of this era, a Mercedes radio cassette player, and a first aid kit in the spacious boot.
ENGINE & TRANSMISSION
The E320 was fitted with a powerful 3. 2 litre, straight-6 engine with four valves per cylinder. The engine in this example is perfectly presented, and runs wonderfully well, outperforming many more modern cars on the road today. The straight 6 produces a firm, reassuring burble through the newly fitted stainless steel exhaust system.
The transmission is the 4-speed 4G-TRONIC automatic system, considered by enthusiasts to be one of the most reliable transmissions ever built by Mercedes-Benz, and certainly with a much better reputation than the sometimes-slow manual system used in many E320s.
WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES
The Sportline wheels on this car are wider than standard models – 7? as opposed to 6. 5?. They are fitted with eight-hole light alloy rims, and are clad in matching Dunlop SP Sport 200E low profile tyres, ensuring superior braking, cornering and handling in both wet and dry conditions. Tyres have excellent tread all the way round, with no uneven wearing. The brakes bring the car to a smooth, efficient stop, with no judder.
HISTORY FILE
Registered in 1994 this perfect Sportline has only ever been to the Mercedes Benz main dealer network. It has been used sparingly and serviced regularly with over 17 Mercedes Stamps in its original service book, that’s an average of 1350 miles per service! The last was completed by Mercedes Benz Brooklands at 22, 955 in October 2019 and as such this gem of a classic car is ready to be enjoyed.
The history file is packed full of Mercedes Invoices detailing more recent work alongside many MOT’s that track the mileage throughout its life.
The original owners pack is present along with the service history book, manuals and spare key.
