Fantic Caballero Super Special 50cc sports moped with the 4 speed Minarelli P4A engine/ gearbox, unrestricted with the big 19mm Dellorto SHB 19. 19B carb and Lanfranconi competition ‘peashooter’ exhaust.
V5 in my name - K reg, 1 previous UK owner, registered as a historic vehicle so MOT + Tax exempt.
Bike has never had a speedo so mileage unknown, I have probably covered about 100 miles in total.
Vintage Pirelli MT07 Campeonato Espanol Sevilla Tyres with loads of tread, 19 inch front, 17 inch rear.
155mm hydraulic Super Tele-Forks on the front, Sebac rear suspension units, Inox stainless steel mudguards.
In really nice condition, there are a few small chips on the tank and the wheels look like somebody has sprayed silver grey paint over the chrome at some stage but they match the hubs, spokes and dark alloy of the crankcase nicely, so I left them as they are.
Original side covers, left has a small segment missing at the bottom and a couple of cracks, the right hand side cover has the obligatory burn mark from the exhaust, I am not totally sure if the exhaust heat shield is the correct one but it fits correctly and does the intended job.
Starts first kick, idles nicely and revs crisply, everything works properly, lights, horn, kill switch etc.
Bought as a ‘restored’ bike last year but it needed plenty of fettling (ie. the spending of a small fortune) to get it just right.
Since purchase it has had a brand new cylinder head imported from Italy to replace the incorrect one previously fitted, refurbished cylinder barrel, replacement piston and rings, new clutch and cable, fresh gearbox oil and air filter, new front brake cable, new correct size jets fitted to the 19mm Dellorto SHB 19. 19B carb including a 102 size main jet, proper earth wires added to the lights, horn and main switch, new chain and sprockets. Currently fitted with a 40 tooth rear sprocket, I do also have a 50 tooth rear sprocket which is great for low speed and off-road and also a 34 tooth rear sprocket if top speed is your thing, together with the appropriate chains, these will come with the bike at the asking price, otherwise by separate negotiation.
All in all a super early Caballero that is ready to ride or admire.
Reason for sale - have my eye on another Fantic moped.
