With great sadness my pride and joy ‘Bibi’ is being offered for sale. This 1989 126 BIS is well known within the enthusiast community and has a following on YouTube.
Since I’ve had it, I have spent thousands on a complete (all new internals including the expensive liners, no expense spared) engine rebuild by Spencer Street Garage and the bodywork tidied by Prestige Paintworks.
This Lusso Red Fiat 126 is one of these cars that define who you are and for many, nostalgic memories. Of course, the tiny engine isn’t the last word in performance but the rear-engine Fiat offers genuine a four-seat capability. This makes them ideal for urban dwellers looking for a depreciation-proof city car that is considerably more interesting than anything you can buy at your local main dealer.
The Fiat’s body is very smart indeed. Part of that is thanks to the work carried out by Prestige Paintworks, who sorted out what little corrosion there was, painting it as necessary.
Everything seems to line up nicely, and the panels themselves are straight and free of damage and serious dents. The red paint, the easiest colour of them all to match and there is a jar with colour matched for any touch ups required. The interior is equally on point.
It has a number of invoices and bills to confirm the work that has been done. This is a great opportunity to get your hands on a recently refurbished Fiat 126 having been barely used since being completed; it’s still looking fabulous and driving, as it should.
