1998 S Bentley Continental R Coachbuilt By Mulliner Park Ward 2 Door Fixed Head Coupe, 6. 75 Litre Zytek Injected V8 producing 385 bhp, 4 Speed Automatic with Sports Mode. Purchased from Michael Powles Bentley Leicester and owned by Father and Son since 2006. A very rare colour combination and specification with two tone interior, winged B logos stitched to headrests, no coachline, 17” twin five spoke alloy wheels, matrix grille, chrome mesh vents below headlights, continental r badging to door sills, drilled metal pedals, chrome instrument surrounds, chrome front number plate plinth, dark burr walnut veneer with no inlay and wrap over waistrails, leather steering column cowl, hide and chrome gear knob, thick rimmed spruce and sandstone steering wheel, lambswool over rugs, town and country horns, and green label B badging. Large history file including copies of the build specification, full service history that includes a complete full stamped service book with receipts comprising of main agents and specialists, the last at Shadow Vehicle Services on 8th July 2020 with a receipt for £1, 600.

This fabulous coachbuilt fixed head coupe is one of the last of the proper 100% Bentley Motors built SZ series motor cars with every single component being bespoke and not borrowed from BMW or VW, they are the ultimate Gentleman’s grand tourer. It is the upgraded 1998 model with 17 inch alloy wheels with lockable centre caps, matrix grilles and restyled bumpers as well as curved pleats to the seats. It has the later more powerful fuel injected engine, sports seats with integrated seat belts and dual airbags. This Conti R has been driven regularly but used sparingly, it has taken the owners family on multiple continental tours, the present owner has owned many Bentleys and owns a Vintage WO 3 Litre. It has always been garaged when not in use under present ownership which has resulted in it being in much better condition than one would expect with this mileage. The two tone hide interior shows very little wear, mainly just some discolouration of some piping, the dark burr walnut woodwork is fabulous and virtually unmarked. Every internal surface is either leather, wood or wool. The original Alpine radio cassette is still in place with a C. D. autochanger in the front armrest. It also has an electric steering column which raises and lowers automatically for the driver and has both town and country horns as well as Traction Control. There are a few very minor marks on the coachwork, mainly minor stone chips to the front end but overall it is in superb condition. The V8 engine sounds lovely and performs superbly and the tyres and front brake pads have recently been replaced.
Two owners manuals are included, the second is the green hardback sleeved manual and the original tool tray is still with the car.
These elegant fixed head coupe Continental R’s are very rare, only 1, 280 were built. They are rising in value now due to rarity as per all the previous Continentals, R-Type Continentals are now fetching over £1 million. S1 Continental Fastbacks have risen ten fold in the last ten years, I am sure this will prove to be a sound long term investment.
This Motor Car can be viewed by prior appointment at the owners home near Grimsby in Lincolnshire, with good access from the A1 Road and the London to Edinburgh Mainline Railway. It is owned by an enthusiast and is kept garaged alongside his other Bentley and his varied car collection.
