The Matra Murena is a rare car in any form and this example is particularly special. At the last count there were only 18 Murenas on the road in the UK, the majority of which are 1. 6s, this example is the only one with this engine specification, having a 2. 2 litre motor that has been tuned to give more power than the top of the range 'S' model.
The engine was rebuilt by Roy Gillard of Redwood Repairs and consisted of a reground crankshaft, re-bored block, water pump reconditioned, cylinder head replaced, and a new camshaft especially made by Piper Cams. Invoice on file. The engine was converted to accept twin reconditioned 45mm Dellorto carburettors and was set up on a rolling road where it achieved 144 bhp. Putting all this power down is a new clutch on a lightened flywheel and a 10% higher top gear has been fitted. The suspension and cooling systems have been overhauled and upgraded, including replacement trailing arms, a known weak point. These and the complete chassis have been extensively Waxoiled, part for works totalling more than 6, 600. The coachwork was repainted some 20 years ago but is wearing its age well. A rare example ready to be enjoyed.

The auction itself will be conducted from a remote saleroom, behind closed doors without public access, in accordance with the current government guidelines. COLLECTION OF PURCHASED LOTS
All lots must be cleared from the Hangar by 1pm on Sunday 21st March. After this, our transport partners E M Rogers will uplift the lot and take to their storage facility in Northampton at a cost of £130+VAT. This charge includes three days of storage. Please access Bicester Heritage via the 'South Gate', Skimmingdish Lane, OX26 5HA. Please email us with your collection or transport instructions as soon as possible following your successful bid. Failure to instruct Bonhams by the given time will result in your vehicle being uplifted to store at your expense, as detailed in the Conditions of Sale on our website. Buyers should satisfy themselves that they have collected all relevant log books, documents and keys relating to their Lot(s) at time of collection.
