Description
The first Golf Cabriolet was introduced in 1979 and was built entirely by Karmann (known as a supplier to, among others, Porsche) while VW simply supplied the mechanical parts. The famous design house ItalDesign, led by Giugiaro, had provided the design for the Golf, and it would later form the school for many subsequent models, both at VW and other manufacturers. Golf Mk. 1 is now a well-established classic that offers open air experiences at the same time as the well-known Golf virtues such as quality and durability. Just notice the solid hood that is a double layer design, insulated and with a solid rear window. That’s why these cars were also used all year round, especially in the more fashionable ski resorts areas. In our opinion, the Mark 1 with its distinctive shapes is far more attractive than the subsequent series 2/ 3 models, which lose a bit of Giugiaro's original slightly boxed design and lines.
Our example originates from Germany, and has had the same caring owner for the past 13 years. It’s obvious that he has taken good care of his car. The car has always been in the garage, still in its original paint, and there is a lot of documentation for service and maintenance performed over the years. Behind the steering wheel, the car still feels tight and well driving . It drives fresh with direct steering, good brakes and the comfortable and firm seats make even long rides feel comfortable. The fact that this particular car is factory-equipped with servo assistance steering and the large 1. 8i engine, just makes driving pleasure greater and easier.
An easy-going convertible with extra space for friends or kids in the rear seat, and still affordable. In many ways, it is the epitome of an extremely well-suited starter classic car that can be used by and with the whole family.
