An amazingly original example of the Francis-Barnett Falcon 81 which uses a Villiers 10E two-stroke engine.
Originally registered by Snells Motor House of Plymouth, Devon; the buff logbook included in the sale of this motorcycle suggests it spent much of its early life around Plymouth and it hasn't travelled far in 63 years to end up for sale with us in Exeter, only 40 miles from its original place of registration! It is presented today in remarkably original condition with the pinstripes still present around the wheels, the brass suppliers’ plate still on the rear mudguard and much of the paint the same as when it left the Francis-Barnett factory.
In recent years, it has been laid up and not seen much use. It is in running order but will need some tinkering to ensure it is safe for road use. We have had the engine running and it sounds as it should. The photos show a cover missing on the side of the engine - it is present and included in the sale. Being a battery model, it is fitted with rectifier and full electronics. It is not currently fitted with battery. The electronics look original and in generally good condition. We have no reason to suggest the mileage of 15, 199 isn't genuine and the original nature of the bike testifies to that. It is nice find and has the very charming quality of being a real time capsule.
Overall, a light project motorcycle in remarkably original condition and that would be perfect for enjoying on the roads this summer!
