Portafold folding classic caravan
We are selling our Portafold folding caravan, which served us well particularly on our visit to Classic Le Mans .
It is lightweight and compact and very easy to tow, hence Portafolds are very popular with classic car owners and ideal for weekend car shows and retro festivals.
Portafolds have an enthusiastic following in their own right and there is a very helpful Portafold register , club and shop. YouTube has videos of how simple it is to erect and fold back down again. Basically the sides and ends fold inwards and the roof drops down over it all for towing so that you can see over the top of it through your rear view mirror whilst driving. Also only 5 foot 4 inches (163 cm)wide when folded so no need for towing mirrors and can be stored in a garage if need be though, it is watertight when down.
There are multiple storage compartments built into the seating areas, giving a lot of space for your bedding and camping gear. The interior structure is original and has not been modified and has boards that can be used to make a large sleeping area.
It has it's original table that fits over a storage 'bin' at the far end. This lifts out and by a clever three-legged arrangement (three the same length and one longer) can be used inside the caravan or outside. For inside use one long leg and two short legs are used. These are missing and will need refitting.
There are alcoves either side of the door that give you somewhere to hang a few clothes and are covered with curtains that we made that match the other curtains made, lined with blackout material at the windows. There are also cushions to match and recovered foam cushions that make up the bed. They store easily for travel but are stored inside over winter or when not in use to keep them fresh.
The shelf at the back sits neatly in the footwell when taking the van down and provides a useful food prep area and more storage behind the curtains when in place. It is the original portafold one with a sink area but is not connected to water .
The caravan has an awning rail but no awning. We have the original awning that came with the van but it is in a poor state . We kept it with the intention of using it as a template but didn't get round to it.
All four corner jacks work correctly.
It comes with a spare wheel and tyre and all tyres were new 3 years ago.
We repainted the interior ourselves. With a fibreglass body, it is generally sound but needs some cosmetic tidying up, mainly repainting the walls on the inside .
The roof and storage areas have all been lined with grey veltrim.
There is plenty of scope for the new owners to personalise the interior to their own taste or in fact the outside as many classic car owners colour co-ordinate their paint schemes.
The paint on the exterior is sound in most areas but there are a few age related cracks in the gelcoat .
