Launched in 1971, the R107 Mercedes SL replaced the legendary Pagoda SL. This new model offered increased road holding, refinements and most importantly a V8 engine. The range topping 450SL offered 225 BHP and 135 MPH top speed, driven through a slick auto box. With independent suspension, power disc brakes front and rear, power steering and amazing high speed stability these cars still feel as good to drive today as they did 50 years ago.
This time warp 1980 example has led a sheltered life. Supplied new by T. H. Bennett Motors, Blackpool this car was bought for the owners wife. It wore the plate 1 TTB and must have been quite the head turner in its day. Finished in beautiful Thistle Green Metallic (881) with Green Cloth & MB Tex Upholstery there is no denying that this was not for shy retiring types. Extras included Limited slip differential, power radio antenna, electric windows, Michelin Tyres, rear bench seat, heat insulating glass, head lamp washers and 14" alloy wheels.
The car was maintained by the supplying dealer with services recorded in the book at 1k, 7k, 11k, 19k, 22k, 25k, 36k and 45k. It then appears that the car was sold on and the car was serviced by Oxley Motors Preesall at 50k, B&K Thomas Mercedes at 59k and Eyebury Motors at 70k. It is at this point the car finds a home with its long term owner who carefully stored the car, covering very few miles. He retained the car from 1988 until 2016 when it was recommissioned and passed its MOT at 76, 177 miles in January 2017. It h as recently been to a local Mercedes specialist for a service, full inspection and rectification of any found faults. The car is a joy to drive and sounds superb. It will come supplied with 12 months MOT (although exempt from both MOT and road tax).
