We are delighted to be offering for sale this special exemplar of 1960 Lancia Appia III series finished in original metallic gray color matching with gray conserved cloth upholstery. This Appia was delivered new in Italy in 1960. The metallic color perfectly suits the model which looks fresh and eye catching. The first owner decided to have the radio fitted, a perfect companion for long trips. Indeed, the Lancia Appia is well know for the extreme quality of finishings, its reliability on long distances and comfort for both passengers and the driver. It’s the 1960s folks! and Lancia was associated to wealth and good taste, namely it was a car at which tipping your hat.
Did you know that a Lancia worker dedicated a poem to the Appia when the last exemplar left the factory on 27th April 1963? In reality, so eradicated was the attachments of Italians for this fine machine, that many were the praises for this model. The Appia was a benchmark in the automotive industry at the point that 1953-1963 was defined the “Appia Age” (“Epoca Appia”).
"You will continue doing your duties like before, on the roads of the world. And we will spot you for who knows how many years to come, because your job is serving with loyalty, and never stopping, legendary Appia. We will be glad (…) hearing proud people saying: my car is an Appia. And, then, don’t be worried about your new-born sister: it is of your same race, it inherited your best virtues. It is already becoming the car of connoisseurs (…): people who owned an Appia own or will own a Fulvia (Ferruccio Bernabò, 1963)"
This Lancia Appia 3 series has spent the last 30 years in a museum that made possible its preservation. Indeed, the most interesting characteristic of this exemplar is its degree of originality: it conserves the original color combination interior/ exterior, original upholstery, original carpets, dashboard unmolested,… that is quite remarkable considering that this Appia is over 60.
Being stored in a museum helped to preserve it like a time box, however, due to the fact that it had not been driven, the mechanic needed to be reviewed when we acquired it. Therefore, we overhauled the engine, the brakes and the clutch, and it now also comes with new exhaust system. The photos of the works carried out document the works done by us.
As far as the documents are concerned, this Lancia Appia 3 series is offered for sale with Italian registration document. This is a good opportunity to become the owner of a well preserved Lancia Appia and become part of its amazing history.
Inspections are encouraged. We can deliver to European destinations and to the Uk.
