FPV TYPHOON F6

History
The roots of FPV can be traced back to 1991, when the English automotive engineering company Tickford began a collaboration with Ford Australia to produce high-performance variants of the Australian Falcon range. The partnership, Tickford Vehicle Engineering, saw the introduction of the Ford Falcon S-XR6 and Ford Falcon S-XR8 models. This was followed in October 1999 by the launch of the Ford Tickford Experience dealer network and the FTE T-Series range based on Ford's AU Falcon and Fairlane models.
In 2002, following the purchase of Tickford by Prodrive, the Ford Performance Vehicles company was formed as a joint venture between Ford Australia and Prodrive. The FPV brand name was created to replace the FTE name and a restructured range was developed based on the Ford BA Falcon, seeing the return of the GT nameplate to a Falcon-based product for the first time since the "30th Anniversary GT", and as a regular production model since the XB Falcon GT. The range was headlined by the FPV GT-P and included a turbo-charged model based on the XR6 Turbo.
Over the years, FPV expanded the range to include a High-Performance version of the Ford Territory as well as a number of special editions and anniversary models. The purchase from Prodrive also saw a factory backed V8 Supercar outfit in Ford Performance Racing.
In August 2012, Ford Australia announced its purchase of FPV assets to continue the engineering, manufacturing and marketing of that performance brand in Australia. In preparation for Ford Australia 's manufacturing shutdown, the FPV brand and its range were discontinued in 2014, after 12 years of production and marketing.

The FPV F6 is a car that was produced in Australia by Ford Performance Vehicles from 2004 until 2014. It is a high-performance derivative of the Australian Ford Falcon.
The F6 is based on the modern-classic Ford Falcon XR6 turbo sedan. The F6 engine is based on the XR6T motor, a turbocharged intercooled DOHC 4. 0L Inline Six with VCT, but includes: a modified FPV airbox (with Dual Ram Air intakes), higher strength conrods, larger air-to-air intercooler, high flow exhaust system, higher capacity fuel pump, and a Garrett GT3582r (same as the BA/ BF XR6T) turbocharger with an internal waste gate (up from the GT3576r on the FG XR6T) running 0. 64 bar of boost on the BA/ BF models and 0. 91 on the FG. This engine is known for its wide, flat torque curve, with peak torque of 565 N?m (417 lb?ft) available from 1950 to 5250 rpm (FG F6). This equates to strong acceleration throughout the rev range.
The F6 represented a diversification of sorts for FPV, broadening the reach of the brand to turbo buyers, a typically younger demographic than the V8 buyers that the Australian manufacturers traditionally cater to.
BA MKII (2004-2005)
The F6 Typhoon first emerged in FPV's late-2004 BA MkII facelift. The car's 4. 0L DOHC 24V Turbocharged Inline Six-Cylinder engine made 270 kW (362 hp) at 5250 rpm and 550 N?m (406 lbf?ft) at 2000-4250 rpm of torque. It was only offered with a Tremec T-56 6-speed manual gearbox. The car had a more low-key look than the V8-powered FPV's with a lower rear wing, no body stripes. The F6 had 18-inch wheels but this car is fitted with the later model 19-inch alloy wheels, and PBR 325 mm (12. 8 in)/ 2-piston brakes offered as standard

In 2005, the BAII F6 Typhoon was disqualified from Motor magazine 's annual Performance Car of the Year competition due to a series of clutch fails. After initially blaming the magazine's testers, FPV labelled the car as "simply too powerful" and withdrew the car from sale for several months while they engineered a fix. All of the cars released with the clutch issues were recalled. The F6 Typhoon returned to win Motor magazine's Australian Performance Car of the Year award in 2006
This car is fitted with a Prodrive developed twin plate clutch perfectly capable of handling it’s now 465hp courtesy of a stage one tune lager injectors and a Walbro high output fuel pump.

                THE ENGINE
Barra 270T (BA / BF FPV)

Barra 270T from a BA-BF FPV
This engine is found in the BA / BF Falcon based FPV F6 Typhoon and Tornado models, and the SY Territory based FPV F6X, and was produced between 2004 and early 2009. It is the high-power variant of the Barra 240/ 245T versions found in the XR6 Turbo. The increase in power is achieved through the use of higher boost pressures from the otherwise under-utilised large Garrett GT3540 turbocharger, a larger intercooler, revised air intake. These are differentiated from the standard turbo engines by the unique FPV blue-coloured rocker cover. With the introduction of the BF Falcon in 2005, the 270T also inherited the upgrades found in the 245T, but the power figures were left unchanged.
Standard power figures Typhoon F6 :-
Power: 270 kW (362 hp) @ 5250 rpm
Torque: 550 N?m (406 lb?ft) @ 2000-4250 rpm
Compression Ratio: 8. 7:1

Actual power figures This Typhoon F6 :-
Power:  465 hp
Torque:  550lb-ft
Comp ratio: 8. 7:1

          THE GEARBOX
The kingpin of TREMEC's high performance line-up, the Magnum double-overdrive 6-speed transmission takes the very best from TREMEC's current OEM technologies and pairs it with the most popular features of the TKO 5-speed.
Able to withstand a massive 700 lb-ft. of torque while providing unbelievably crisp shifts, no other manual transmission on the planet offers as much combined strength, versatility, and general ease-of-use as the Magnum.
Known in its original equipment form as the 'TR-6060', the Magnum is an aftermarket version of the same transmission found in many of today's most celebrated factory muscle cars – including the Dodge Challenger and Viper, and the Chevrolet Camaro – giving you refinement where you want it and strength where it counts.
              THE DIFFERENTIAL
The FPV Typhoon F6 is fitted with a very capable Dana 80 LSD at the rear with independent suspension all round.

2005 FPV TYPHOON F6 FOR SALE.
I Never thought I’d be writing this advert, but the time has come for me to sell “Sheila” Honestly the greatest car I have had the pleasure to own and drive. As far as I am aware, she is still one of only two registered FPV (Ford Performance Vehicles) F6 cars in the UK. So extremely rare. Originally purchased by me from the chap that imported her and her sister car, this vehicle was set up with a mild tune to be the Dreamscience Tuning Flagship Car. This vehicle offers impressive performance with executive comfort. Weighing in at 1800kg she will return 13. 5 secs for the standing quarter mile with (465bhp) & (550Nm).
If you know anything about these cars you will know what a great and rare opportunity this is to acquire a very special bit of Australian muscle.
THE ENGINE SPECIFICATIONS
Fitted with the very tuneable legend that is the BARRA 6 engine.
This is a 4. 0litre Dual Variable Cam Timing inline 6 cylinder 24valve with a recently rebuilt Garrett GT40 twin ball race turbo (new exhaust housing and build). Transmission is through a relined and balanced Prodrive developed twin plate clutch (OEM), driving a T56 Tremec 6 speed dual syncro gearbox. This is all backed up with a Dana 80 LSD... IRS set up at the rear. The engine is custom remapped by Dreamscience, has bigger than standard injectors, A Walbro 550 high flow fuel pump and is exhausted through a stainless-steel X Force twin exhaust with quad tailpipes with phenomenal sound.
I recently fitted a billet oil pump and full cam chain, tensioner and slipper set from MACE performance Australia after finding out the OEM pumps are prone to cracking. Whilst doing this I took opportunity to service the cylinder head, lapping in the valves and replacing the stem seals and skim. I replaced the apparently troublesome VCT actuators at the same time and fitted a pair of ATOMIC PERFORMANCE Vernier cam gears deleting the VCT. Creating a much smoother power curve with excellent throttle response. So should the new owner wish to fit aftermarket camshafts or a Spool knife edge crankshaft for example, then the sky is the limit, with 1000bhp+ easily attained. Go check them out on the Interweb. Although the stock bottom end is good for 600bhp and she’s only pushing 465-500 at the moment, so plenty of room for improvement. I also fitted new engine mounts at the same time too.

THE CAR
The car has dual zone climate control / AC, electric windows, remote central locking, loads of air bags, cruise control, abs, ebd, esp, etc. The interior is in two-part leather (premium option) and the dash has the usual refinements with a colour vehicle monitor with six CD stereo with subwoofer. I have the original manuals, FPV membership certificate, car number 0123, a folder of specs, 2 x keys and remotes. I have a recent print out from Australian Ford Motor Co to list build specs on the car. Lots of receipts for parts fitted. I have replaced the front hub assemblies and discs, also last year I fitted a set of new shock absorbers front and rear.
The body work in Mercury Silver is in fair/ good condition for 10 years as a daily user and a 15-year-old car that has put up with British weather. There are a couple of small bits of rust appearing on the top of the rear wheel arches, and a few bits underneath as my MOT guy tells me. Oh and a few battle scars, Small dent in the boot lid and scratches here and there. The interior is in fair condition, the driver’s seat has fifteen years wear, I am hiding nothing. She comes with warts and all. As I said she has been my daily user since I got her, and our weather affects all cars. This is also noticeable when looking at the 2010 model 19inch wheels, rough looking and the lacquer is lifting, so if the new keeper wants to, they can have them re-cut and painted… I did this when I bought her 10 years ago.
Registered in 2005 She was imported into the UK from Australia in 2005 and went through all the ESVA tests at MIRA and was subsequently registered. This is a rare car because most Australian imports do not meet the European Regs and cannot be registered over here, this one is fully UK compliant Right-hand drive. The road fund category is £205 per year. The speedometer was badly converted by the importer with an MPH overlay when I got her. The good news is I have sourced a genuine FPV set of dial faces (that will be supplied with the car) for the new keeper to fit. I have regularly serviced and maintained her; Oil changed every 6000km. She is in good condition for a teenager (15years).
She has approximately 100000Km / 60000 Miles and rising. The MOT is until Dec 25th 2022. Give me a ring or arrange to come and view, (recommended)
I will not tolerate time wasters or dreamers. If you know what you’re looking at then you will realise this is a one-time offer of a fantastic piece of Aussie engineering.
Drop me a line if you want to know more.
Please see below a copy of a print out for this car.
In reality it is one of only seven cars produced with this trim and colour etc.
Listed as build number 123.
