In July 1976 new emissions regulations heralded the mildly facelifted HX Monaro GTS sedan. The HX was the second of three facelifts on the HQ shape. The HX only got a minor grille update, the major reason for the HX was so that Holden could comply with the new ADR 27a, a rule designed to lower exhaust emissions, this meant a reduction in fuel economy and power.
The body was quite distinguishable, with liberal splashes of black paint-outs contrasted against a range of bold period body colours, and a choice of traditional chrome or body painted bumper bars along with distinctive honeycomb wheels. Also included was full instrumentation, sports steering wheel (this one has an after-market one), bucket seats with red stripe detailing, sports wheels, side guard vents and GTS grille.
The 5. 0 litre L31 (308 ci) engine, offered power outputs of 161 kW at 4800 rpm and torque at 400 Nm at 3100 rpm on optional manual or automatic transmissions, this one is automatic.
This automatic example shines in its lustrous yellow body with black striped detail. It would appear that it would have been resprayed at some stage before current ownership but has been kept in the original colours, fitted in its original bone interior with bucket seats with red stripe detailing. This chassis number identifies the car as New Zealand assembled model.
It was under long-term ownership of a Te Awamutu farmer and mechanic for 30 years, who traded up to an Aston Martin before selling it to our current vendor, who had it for two years.
