1952 Willys M38A1 Jeep - superb restored example SOLD
Motodrome are pleased to offer this utterly charming, nicely restored, 1952 Willys M38A1 Jeep, known as ‘Donald’
An early production example as evinced by the hinges on the bottom of the grille panel, Donald is fitted with it’s original 2. 2 litre flat top ‘Hurricane’ petrol engine, a matching set of 700x16 tyres, NATO towhook, and it’s been retrofitted with indicators.
We have all the sidescreens including the natty little canvas doors, as you can see in some of the photos.
Obviously the whole hood, and the windscreen, can be folded for the summer.
Originally a US Forces Germany example (currently in the insignia of the 101st Airborne – the ‘Screaming Eagles’) before being cast by them in 1968 in Belgium.
We know little of Donald’s history for the next 40 years, before it was UK registered in 2008, when it seems to have undergone substantial restoration, before moving to Spain with it’s then owner.
It returned to the UK in 2018, and has been loving kept by the last owner subsequently.
Odometer reading just 11000 miles (which may be correct but we can’t warrant it ), and the V5 shows just 2 previous keepers since 2008.
Donald comes with a huge file of bills and original manuals etc, and recent work since 2018 includes
• Complete gearbox and transfer box rebuild
• New clutch
• New petrol tank
• New brake master and slave cylinders
• Rebuilt handbrake
On our own website, you’ll find our usual walkaround appraisal video, including starting and idling. We haven’t bothered doing a driving video on this one as a) there’s nowhere to mount the camera, and b) you wouldn’t be able to hear the commentary with the sidescreens off. However, I can confirm that Donald drives just the way a 1952 Jeep should…
An excellent alternative to a classic Land Rover, (and possibly better built) and just as capable over the rough stuff should you so desire.
