Classic Classics are thrilled to be able to offer this stunning and very rare Naylor TF1700, No. 47/ 100.
The Naylor TF 1700 is a fully legislated car built with the approval of MG (Austin RoverGroup), using many of the original manufactures parts, and built using traditional coach building craftsmanship with heavy gauge steel chassis, ash frame and top-quality body panels.
The original MGTF ceased production in 1955 and the Naylor TF started production in Bradford in 1985.
As safety legislation had changed, some alterations to the original MGTF had to be made, such as the forward opening (suicide) doors, the fold down front windscreen and protruding door handles, these could no longer be used due to safety laws. Other improvements made over the original car were the fitting of the 1700cc “O Series” engine which was positioned 50mm further back in the frame than the original to improve weight distribution and gear-lever position. Servo assisted disc brakes along with more gauges and dashboard warning lights were also fitted.
Naylor’s only produced 100 cars, of which this car is No. 47. All Naylor TF’s were hand built by teams of 3 men, whose names can be seen on a plaque in the engine bay.
This car was supplied to Welptons of Hessle and was displayed in their showroom from 1985 to 1993, when it was purchased by its first owner from the Doncaster area. This Naylor TF is believed to be the last car to be registered in the UK.
OGU 384 has had only 2 owners from new and has covered a mere 8458 miles from new. Finished in “Off White” with contrasting full Black leather seats. Riding on Chromed wire wheels this car has all the original looks and charm with a modern-day twist.
Out on the open road the car performs faultlessly, and thanks to the increased engine size over its earlier predecessor, the Naylor is more than capable of keeping up with modern traffic and will cruise comfortably at 70mph. The servo assisted front brakes perform well and inspire confidence and the handling is aided not only by the weight distribution of the engine sitting further back in the frame but also by four trailing arm links and a Panhard rod and is sprung by coils with concentric telescopic shock absorbers, as used on the front too.
Accompanying the car is a folder full of history with various invoices and old MOT’s, a Naylor TF workshop manual and a huge selection of the Naylor News club members magazines, it would take you a month to read through them all!
Viewing is highly recommended to appreciate just how stunning this car really is, an absolute credit to its 2 previous owners and now ready to be enjoyed by its next.
