Lot 93
1914 Calthorpe Precision Junior 2-Speed 170cc
Reg. no. HAA 576
Frame no. 551A
Engine no. 11896
The Calthorpe Junior gained great acclaim in 1914 when it achieved many excellent results in the tough ACU Trials of the time as well as being the first ‘Motorcyclette' to make the very challenging accent of Snowden. The Precision engine used a very interesting horizontal valve system and a two-speed gear that was incorporated in the crankcase and was operated by foot pedals.
This is a very rare motorcycle with only 10 known to the VMCC. It was restored to a very high standard over several years from 1998 by the present owner and with the help of the VMCC marque specialist. It has not been used for some time and it will therefore require some recommissioning, the engine turns over smoothly with good compression and the gears select as designed.
Comes with – a current V5, an old buff logbook from 1949, an old tax disc from 1953, VMCC dating paperwork and a letter from the VMCC Calthorpe specialist. Also, a receipt for the magneto rebuild, a photograph of the bike when purchased by the present owner and various photocopies of bike related information.
Estimate: £8, 500 – 10, 500
