A charming little Fordson E83W half ton drop-side truck in very solid, driveable condition.
Dating from 1956 and built at Dagenham, this is a late example of the popular small Fordson which was sold in many guises and was the workhorse of choice for many a small business.
Although perfectly usable as it is we are selling it as a bit of a project as it would benefit from repairs to the doors which have rusted out at the bottom and a repaint.
The engine starts readily and is quite lively, typical of the classic 1172cc Ford 10HP. It goes through the gears, steers and stops as it should.
Underneath the chassis is very solid as is the drop-side truck body. The canvas cover is in excellent condition too with ropes all present and correct.
The cab is in good order and has the luxury of fitted carpet.
Electrics are 12 volt and the battery is quite recent so starting isn’t an issue. It is fitted with an isolator and direction indicators.
There are some valuable items of spares with the truck, namely, a spare engine and gearbox with clutch. The original petrol tank also comes with the vehicle; it is presently fitted with a small tank behind the cab.
Owing to their low survival rate, light commercials such as this Fordson are eagerly sought after and this one will surely be a most rewarding project.
