The paperwork states this was delivered new to a Mr J Williams by Rootes of Birmingham, 10 months after a rally-spec Mk II, driven by Sir Stirling Moss, Desmond Scannell and John Cooper came second in the Monte Carlo Rally- a sale possibly inspired by the public interest this achievement created. Indeed, Sir Stirling went on to compete further in Sunbeam Talbots with great success. This car was refinished in the mid-1990’s by an enthusiast including a competent re-trim which, in the main still looks lovely. The engine compartment is tidy and the paintwork, though re-done about 25 years ago and now bearing some light scuffs and patina to its lower panels, presents pretty well overall. We have taken the Sunbeam in part exchange from a customer who bought it from Mathewsons auction in 2020 for £5, 940’50 and suspect it is a better proposition now with hours of TLC lavished and being driven regularly and reliably. We are willing to sell the car on as-is for an easy sale for considerably less believing it could make be an affordable purchase which can be used and enjoyed, or a car to improve over time or even dress-up and show as a mock rally car with period livery. Alternatively, it could be modified and used for classic rallying. This is not a car we have prepared, and it will therefore be sold on as a project. The engine sounds sweet, gearbox and clutch are smooth and running around locally, we found it pretty taught and rattle free. Trade enquiries welcome.
