If there is one thing we love at Cult Classics, it’s those left field vehicles that pepper our motoring history and they don’t come much more left field than a Sinclair C5, a true Cult Classic!!!
The companies first and only production vehicle, it had a body designed by lotus and was built at the Hoover factory in Merthyr Tidfil. It was launched with great fanfare in 1985 and was, as we all know, an epic fail!
We can’t help but wonder though, if it were to be launched today, in a world now obsessed with electrifying every mode of transport, what sort of reception would it receive? Maybe Sir Clive Sinclair wasn’t totally bonkers after all, just 40 years ahead of his time.
So, to our C5, it is a bit of a find because it has never been used, it is effectively brand new. Bought in 1985 and put into storage, it was never unpacked, never had air in the tyres, never had the battery connected, the only reason it is not still in its original box is, unfortunately it had succumbed to the ravages of 40 years in storage and fell apart! Its contents, however are all utterly perfect.
This alone would be pretty exciting but our C5 also comes with every single optional extra, most of which are still sealed in their boxes / packets, these include.

That’s was £120 worth of options!!! We know this because our C5 also comes with its original owners pack which includes the accessories catalogue, owners manual, and the hysterical RoSPA guide to safe driving in the Sinclair C5!
There is also the original battery, battery charger, 2 Keys and tool kit.
We deliberated long and hard about connecting it up to have a go but as this has to be one of the most original, untouched and complete C5s in the country, we decided to leave it in its unused state. As a result we cannot comment on its functionality.
So, summing up, this is a very very rare opportunity to buy an unused and perfectly preserved piece of British motoring history which would make a fantastic addition to any automotive collection.
