Description
Welcome and thanks for looking. I am selling my wonderful and much-loved Caterham. It's the best of 3 I have owned and I am selling because I have just bought a Jaguar C Type Replica and will be using this now.
The car's spec. is as close at it gets to the original Lotus 7 S3 which is acknowledged to be the most desirable model of this great design, but with a few improvements such as the location of the rear axle.
It is a 1995 car built from a kit, hence the Q plate, but beautifully done and it is a fabulous package.
BODYWORK
In great condition as it was taken apart and the colour changed from Lotus yellow to blue. This was done professionally about 8 years ago and it has stood the test of time. There are minor stone chips and a few imperfections but the overall appearance is pleasing.
The mudguards are in gloss black and in great shape with very minor stress cracks to one of the rears. These are simple and cheap to replace if you wish. The bonnet, boot area, nosecone, etc. are all good. Black windscreen, wipers and headlights.
SPEC
The engine is a very lively 1600 Ford X Flow 'Kent' unit with a Ford Type 9, 4 speed gearbox driving 13" Weller wheels.
Spax adjustable suspension front and rear
Black exhaust guard
Electronic ignition
Twin 40 genuine Weber carbs
Uprated front wishbones from Caterham
4 branch exhaust manifold
Willans racing harnesses
Ignition cut-off switch
Lowered driver's side floor
Caterham vinyl seats
Kumho matching tyres all round (no spare)
Full weather gear, hood bag and boot cover
Discs at front (new with new pads), drums to rear
Live axle (not sure if there is an LSD so assume not)
Ali radiator
ON THE ROAD
So engaging to drive with lightning quick steering, strong but unassisted brakes, great gear change, responsive throttle. Suspension, brakes, steering all as they should be.
WORK NEEDED
There are 2 chips in the heated windscreen but these have not worsened in the 14 years I have had the car and it's fine for an MOT. The heater fan failed and has been removed but there is a common fix for this (replacement unit).
SUMMARY
This is a great car with around 100 BHP at the wheels and it has been thoroughly fettled and maintained by me and professionals with loads of bills and history about an inch thick.
It's ready for action.... I love Caterhams and this is a great example. It's been well maintained and is a hoot to drive and reliable too. There are some good upgrades like electronic ignition, cooling fan, etc. There is nothing as exciting to drive as one of these and this is one of the most affordable on the market now.
