Morgan 4/ 4 - 2 Seater - 1969

Arguably the 1960's Morgan was the prettiest car ever produced at the Malvern factory. From its arched, swept back grill, through to the svelte, chrome rear bumper, it came to define the shape of all 4-wheeled Morgan's for decades to come.

Like so many long running models, time brought extra weight, more seats, fussy electrics and modern ‘parts bin’ additions that never quite gelled with its classic look. For this reason, as one of the last cars from that decade, with the favoured Ford running gear, this must be one of the most desirable Morgan's on the market today.

This Car’s Specification:

- Brown leather bonnet strap
- Wooden dash with locking glove box
- Classic Morgan dials and switches
- 4-spoke ‘Brooklands’ steering wheel

WLM 400G has had just 4 owners over its 55 year life. It spent the 70’s and 80’s living in South Wales, before a five year stint in Cheshire during the early 1990’s. The third owner bought her in 1994 from Chelsea Cars, keeping her in East Dulwich until 2015.

There is a thick history file for WLM. Previous MOT’s, handwritten letters from 2 out of the original 3 owners, stacks of service and parts invoices and MOT’s from 1988 to 2016 help to substantiate the cars 61, 000 miles.

In 2015 WLM was bought by Martin Reede, a man well known in MG Racing circles. Martin spent his working life at the works preparation department in Abingdon building many of the company's rally winning cars. He retired from MG in 1980 and to keep himself busy put his huge talent into various classic restoration projects.

For a year, Martin did little physical work to WLM, except for some basic servicing. During this time he thoroughly researched both the car and the model and hatched a plan for its complete restoration.

October 2016 saw the start of the project and WLM was stripped to component pieces. Martin has documented the work he has carried out between 2016 and 2021 when he became too ill to work on the car. Along with this log, there are invoices for all the significant outsourced work and parts, such as engine and gearbox rebuilds, new door farmers and paint all carried out by marque specialists. The restoration has been carried out to the car's original specification without performance or personal upgrades. This has kept WLM pure in her looks, performance and sounds.

Over a 5 year period the meticulous restoration included (but was not limited to):

- A complete body restoration, with additional material welded into wing supports, to improve a known weak spot
- An under bulkhead, Tim Ayres ‘roll hoop’ fitted to give better torsional rigidity and support to the doors
- New floor and heal boards
- New door frames
- Fully re-trimmed interior
- Wooden dash refurbished by a boat builder
- All original instruments, gauges and switchgear rebuilt
- Extensive refurbishment of the wiring loom
- All new suspension bushes, shock absorbers and springs
- Rebuilt differential and rear axle
- Fuel tank stripped, cleaned and repainted
- Bulkhead stripped, cleaned and powder coated
- New brake and fuel lines
- Rebuilt front and rear brakes
- Rebuilt carburettor
- Rebuilt Ford Cross Flow engine
- Rebuilt radiator and cooling system

Martin passed away earlier this year and Project Shop, Bicester were commissioned to finish his work. This has included completing the interior carpet, finishing the rebuild of the rear axle, commissioning the brakes, engine and making the car ready for MOT and shakedown.

We are now handling the sale of WLM for Martin’s Widow. Here is a rare opportunity to buy a faithfully restored Morgan 4/ 4 at less than half of what it would cost to have built.

We have taken 40 detailed pictures of the car from on top and underneath, which we can send via Whatsapp. Alternatively the car is available to view at our Bicester workshop by appointment.
