1929 Swift 6
History of Sift Motor company-
The Swift Motor co. Ltd. Manufactured motor cars at their Coventry factory from 1900 until 1931. The company developed from Coventry Machinists Co, who were well established in the manufacture of sewing machines and later bicycles, before they went into production of motor cars. Swift never went into the realm of sports or racing cars but developed an enviable reputation for reliability among doctors and professional people. However, although Swift cars had there following, the mass production techniques of Morris and Austin enabled those companies to sell an equivalent car at much less than the cost of a Swift. Consequently the production of Swifts ceased in 1931. To date there around 180 Sift cars on the register.
This example is a 1929, 6 'Light Paladin saloon'. It features a 4 cylinder side valve engine of 1190cc, 12 volt electrical system with the ignition being served by a BTH magneto. The power was around 22BHP at 3, 000rpm, this was transmitted through a single plate dry clutch and 4 speed sliding pinion gate-change gearbox. The original sale price was £285.
Running and driving as it should, being 12v starts easily, brakes and clutch etc all working as the should. Engine sounds well and has good oil pressure.
