The Bimota DB1R was originally a factory-built race bike, and this specific motorcycle enjoyed factory sponsorship and racing success. It clinched the 1987 US Formula Expert Championship at Daytona under the skillful guidance of Malcolme Tunstall. Remarkably, this bike remains in its "as-raced" condition, complete with the racing slicks, and has been kept indoors in private collections for over 38 years.
The DB1R models were essentially "works" or "corsa" bikes, with only two of them receiving official factory support. Among these, this is the sole surviving factory-backed bike. Just ten of these exceptional machines were ever produced, and this one bears the chassis number 00200. They featured special Ducati engines and tuning, many magnesium components, the absence of fuel cell mounts, a custom aluminum fuel cell with a breather hose, no lighting equipment, an oil cooler positioned at the front of the perforated fairing, and a 2-into-1 race exhaust, among other unique features. The motorcycle proudly retains its original livery with several of the original stickers, including two Daytona race scrutineering stickers.
This bike has even been featured in a prominent Bimota book, and a copy of the book will be included with the purchase. As for spare items, it comes with a rare scale model of the DB1 body, an extra front fender, a new old stock (NOS) pair of gloves that Malcolme Tunstall once wore, a rare DB1 owner's manual, two framed Bimota posters, and more.
Furthermore, it's worth noting that Malcolme Tunstall, the accomplished rider associated with this bike, is still alive and has confirmed the bike's authenticity.
