Description
This is a very original BMW R65 GS. It was imported from Germany and registered in the UK on 8 May 2004. These were only made for the civilian market for a few months in 1989 and are very rare. This bike is in good overall condition with the signs of wear expected of an unrestored, 35 year old bike. It is in very good mechanical order.
I have owned the R65 GS for six years and everything works as it should. It comes with lots of paperwork - Old MOTs, service sheets and receipts for work and parts, as well as the original manual/ service book and even an original German brochure sheet for this model.
Please see the photos in order to judge the condition. Some of these were taken before I recently added the Nitron shock absorber, the more powerful front disc set up and fork brace. I was intending to keep this machine for the long term and had started to upgrade it. Unfortunately, due to a reduction in garage space I am now having to trim back my motorcycle collection.
The speedo is showing 7000 Km but was changed in 2009 when it was reading 56245 Km, so it has done 63, 245 Km, which equates to 39, 298 miles.
This has the more common lower powered engine but it will sit comfortably at 70mph on the motorway and is fine for a classic bike. Not as powerful as the now pricey R80 G/ S model but an otherwise identical machine. There are various options available to upgrade the engine if you wish.
The bike has been little used since I bought it (less than 1000km). It is currently untaxed and on SORN.
Work undertaken in my ownership includes:
Nitron rear shock absorber fitted. The new cost for this item is £550 and it has only done a few miles.
Front brake disc upgrade kit, costing £325. Recently fitted plus new front brake pads and fresh brake fluid.
New fork brace fitted
Upgraded sump guard fitted
New front wheel bearings recently fitted
Luggage frames and panniers (s/ h)
New windshield
