The Aston Martin DB7 GTA was the ultimate expression of the DB7 launched in October 2002. Dr Ulrich Bez, CEO of Aston Martin at the time said “it’s a sportier approach to the current DB7 but incorporating all the elements that made DB7 so successful. The GTA is a very rare car, only 112 were made – of which 60 were for the UK market.
Extensive changes were made to deliver a “different” type of DB7;
- Aerodynamics – Improved high speed balance and lift reduction of 50%
o Underbody sweeps and wheel arch liner extensions
o Boot lid spoiler
- Chassis – Improve handling and body control
o Revised damper settings and top mounts
o Stiffer bushes and improved location of front lower wishbones and front sub-frame
o Additional rear suspension bracing to improve stability under braking
o Better location of the steering rack to improve input and feedback
o Increased front wheel movement and lowering the bump stops to improve ride
- Body – Improve under bonnet air-flow management and appearance
o Bonnet Vents
o Mesh Front Grill
o 5 spoke 18 inch allow wheels
o High back sports seats from V12 Vanquish
- Brakes – Improved performance and feel
o Racing Style grooved discs and uprated pads
o Updated brake booster from to improve performance, feel and consistency
- Acceleration
o Lower final drive ratio to improve acceleration
o Active exhaust system
The Car
Supplied new by Aston Martin Lagonda itself in February 2003, this RHD GTA comes in Canna di Fucile (a Ferrari ‘gun metal’ colour) with a stunning Eclipse (burgundy) and Charcoal leather interior with Black Oak wood trim. This combination is truly striking and is quintessential Aston Martin.
As with all GTAs, this car has the ‘Touchtronic’ semi-automatic gearbox and the GTA modifications mentioned above. It also has Air conditioning and heated front and rear windscreens, heated seats and the Premium Audio installation option.
It’s History
This GTA is in excellent condition with just 53, 700 miles. Over its lifetime, this GTA has been serviced initially by Aston Martin Works, then with main dealers such as Lancaster of Sevenoaks and Stratstone of Derby with more recent works undertaken by renowned specialists McGurk, Pugsley & Lewis and Chicane. This results in over 15 stamps in the service book as evidence of a very well maintained car.
This GTA comes with all documents, a full service history booklet, a spare set of keys and an as supplied battery trickle charger.
Conclusion
The GTA is not just an improved DB7 Vantage, it is quite a different car due to its many upgrades. The number plate of LA03 GTA comes with the car and is a most fitting addition to this very rare Aston Martin.
