The story of the ‘Beetle’ Cabrio began in 1948, at a time when Volkswagen was trying to put the scars of the Second World War behind it and was being reborn in Wolfsburg. Wilhelm Karmann bought a model and began developing a convertible version. Production began at Karmann in Osnabrück after Volkswagen gave the go-ahead for the project. The model achieved international fame, competing with its rivals through high standards of reliability with simple mechanics and earning a reputation for build quality in its day. Classy and elegant finishes led to worldwide success for many enthusiasts of the brand and the model The Cabrio was more than just a ‘Beetle’ convertible.
