This lot will be auctioned via Iconic Auctioneers, The Iconic Motorcycle Sale at Shuttleworth - Spring 2025 on Sunday the 4th of May, Shuttleworth, Old Warden Park, Beds, SG18 9EP .
Based on a 1922 Douglas 2¾ machine but fitted with three 6v batteries
Introduced during WWII when fuel was scarce and difficult to come by
Built by a Mr Pidcock from Peterborough in 1942 and featured in June 1942 Motor Cycling magazine with a copy included
Mr Pidcock claimed a top speed of 18mph when fully charged and was capable of a days running
3-speed, linked to the three batteries, position one is 6v, position two is 12v and position three is 18v
The economy was worked out in period to be nine miles per penny!
Believed to be one of the first electric bikes registered for the road and presented in what appears to be mostly original condition
Unused for a few years so will probably need new batteries and a recommission
Supplied with a history file containing old RF60 'buff' log book, numerous letters from period, copy of Motor Cycling magazine, wiring diagram and some Douglas correspondence. A fantastic piece of motorcycling history
