Description
This lot will be auctioned via Iconic Auctioneers, The Iconic Motorcycle Sale at Shuttleworth - Spring 2025 on Sunday the 4th of May, Shuttleworth, Old Warden Park, Beds, SG18 9EP .
Designed by the SOE (Special Operations Executive) based at Welwyn during WWII as a lightweight mode of transport for the British Armed Forces
The Welbike became the smallest and lightest military vehicle produced by the British and was designed for single use
Perfect for use by paratroopers and was capable of folding up into a capsule and being dropped by parachute along with troops
In reality, few of the c. 3, 600 bikes produced actually saw service, some did get deployed to Arnhem and some were used on D-Day
Built by Excelsior at their Tyburn factory and fitted with the two-stroke Villiers Junior 98cc engine
This older restoration example is presented in good overall condition
From a small European collection so probably one of the few bikes actually deployed in period
Not used for a while so will require some basic recommissioning before use
No paperwork with this lot
Please note this bike is not UK-registered
