A new introduction for 1959, the Junior Sportster was Moto Rumi's answer to the growing demand for lightweight yet spirited sporting machinery. At its heart lay the firm's distinctive horizontally opposed, twin-carburettor two-stroke twin, now equipped with plated alloy cylinders. Buyers could specify a competition kit comprising larger carburettors, a higher 11. 5:1 compression ratio and freer-breathing exhaust system. In this form, output was significantly increased, raising the top speed from in excess of 70mph to over 80mph – an impressive figure for a 125cc road-going machine of the period.

Offered here is a Moto Rumi 125 Junior SS, one of the rarer and more highly sought-after variants from this innovative Italian marque. When exactly Robert acquired this example for his collection is not recorded, and the earlier history of the machine is likewise unknown. It is known, however, that the bike was ridden by Peter Crew in a BMCRC event at Brands Hatch on 18/ 19 April 2009. Carefully kept in the collection in more recent years, it is offered without documents. If purchased by a UK buyer, a NOVA 1 declaration will need to be completed and a UK registration applied for.

Prospective buyers should please note that whilst Robert actively started and maintained his collection, all machines are offered as requiring recommissioning to a greater or lesser extent.

All lots are sold 'as is/ where is' and Bidders must satisfy themselves as to the provenance, condition, age, completeness and originality prior to bidding. Visit the Bonhams Motorcycles Website for all pertinent auction information.
