Description

Introduced in October 1965, the MGB GT was a landmark model for the British motor industry. Styled by the renowned Italian design house Pininfarina, the GT brought fastback elegance and everyday practicality to the much-loved MGB roadster platform. Often credited as one of the earliest sports hatchbacks to enter volume production, the GT offered improved aerodynamics, a useful rear deck with 2+2 seating capability and genuine touring credentials, allowing top speeds in excess of 100mph while retaining the charm and balance that defined the MGB name.

We are always keen to acquire fine examples of the MGB GT, and therefore delighted when the owner of this particularly well-presented, locally owned car approached us to part-exchange his cherished GT for another Milestones classic. It is immediately clear that this is a car that has been carefully selected, thoughtfully improved and genuinely enjoyed.

Finished in striking red, the car presents extremely well and benefits from a highly desirable specification. The period vinyl roof combined with the folding Webasto sunroof creates exactly the right classic silhouette, while the chrome wire wheels complete the look beautifully. It is a combination that feels entirely correct for the model and gives the car a real showroom presence.

On the road, the GT performs exactly as it should. The driving experience is reassuringly solid and mechanically the car has been well cared for, with recent works including a starter motor replacement, ignition overhaul and brake refurbishment. Regular servicing has ensured that the car remains dependable and ready to be used as intended, whether for relaxed weekend drives or longer touring adventures.

Inside, the cabin is a particularly pleasing place to be. Previous owners, are clearly both enthusiastic and fastidious, so have invested heavily in maintaining the interior to a high standard. Black leather seat covers with red piping complement the exterior perfectly, while new carpets, headlining and a Motolita steering wheel lift the overall ambience. The result is an interior that feels classic, sporting and inviting, without straying from period correctness.

The car appears to have spent the majority of its life in Sussex and Hampshire, having been supplied new by Wadham Stringer Limited of Southampton on the 5th of April 1972. Supporting the car is a substantial history file dating back to 1990, including a Heritage Certificate, old MOT certificates, numerous invoices and photographic records, all of which help tell the story of careful long-term ownership.

Equally at home displayed proudly at a local classic car show, enjoyed on a leisurely drive to the pub, or packed with soft bags for an unforgettable journey along the North Coast 500 with a partner beside you, this charming MGB GT is a wonderful example of the model. Ready to be driven, admired and enjoyed, it now awaits its next custodian to continue the story.
